My name is Buscemi (pronounced Boo-shem-ee), but I like to be called Boo for short. I am a 2½-year-old, 9-pound White & Tan Male Shih-Tzu mix. I’m a very interesting looking big-eyed little guy. I was adopted last year and returned to SBRET because they could no longer financially afford to take care of me. I need a very Dog-savvy adopter with no children – the reason is I am a little stubborn at times and tend to get a little grumpy – I have not been around many people in my young life so it takes me a little while to trust you and others. I would probably do better with that if we went on short day trips together so I can meet new people.
I would need a professional groomer that has worked with shy/nervous dogs like me. I do ok with the bath, brushing, and nail trim but I don’t like the clippers – hopefully I’ll get used to all that in time. My foster mom noticed I was walking funny – the vet said I have Slipping Hocks in both rear legs (it’s like being double jointed). I was born that way (it’s genetic) - not to worry because it’s painless and I get around just fine. I’m doing ok with my housetraining and would need someone home part of the day so that continues. I wear a belly band (male wrap which I’ll bring with me) when I roam the house - I will also use pee pads while I’m working on going potty outside all the time.
I walk well on a leash/harness – if you have a secured fenced yard that would be great but you would still need to be with me whenever I’m outside. My foster mom crates me if she leaves the house for short periods of time and also at night with my crate covered (I sleep quietly until morning). I’m starting to play with toys and that makes my foster mom very happy. I ride quietly crated in the car and would make a great travel buddy. I like to cuddle but I get a little nervous if there are other dogs in your lap so I sometimes just hang out in a bed close by. I haven’t been around cats so we’re not sure how I would do with them. I get along with the other dogs in my foster home but I don’t play with them. I just follow them around and check out whatever they are getting into. My foster mom laughs at me all the time - she says I have a lot of character.
I’m neutered, microchipped, up to date on my vaccines,flea and heartworm preventions. My adoption fee is $175.
