My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I’m Wesley, I turned 2 years old on July 24,2023 according to the shelter I was rescued from. I have ✨ anxiety ✨ but that doesn’t mean I don’t deserve a loving home! My rescue family and my vet believe I am a tan Border Collie and possibly Australian Shepherd mix. I was most likely dumped in a subdivision in Lenoir City right before 4th of July fireworks started. I wandered around for an entire month and a half before someone decided to try and trap me. I was very, very frightened when animal control came to get me and took me to the shelter. Can you imagine how stressful this entire situation was for me? Since no one came to claim me and I still wasn’t overly friendly with the staff, I was set to be euthanized. That’s when my rescue family stepped in and saved my life!

Since coming to my new home, I have undergone a training evaluation with Pawsitively K9 and have built a bond with my rescue mom. I let her cut my nails, give me baths, and even brush me! I like to play with toys and I like attention from people I trust. I have gotten along with other dogs and if I have a doggy sibling I prefer to have a dog who will respect my space! I also need a home without young children as they make too many sudden movements for me. I would do best in a home without children or with older children (12+).

Also since we’re being completely honest, I want to share that I have responded negatively in the past when I felt threatened or stressed. I nipped the kind lady when she trapped me but now I know she was only trying to help. I also nipped an acquaintance who was petting me after a public outing which everyone now knows is too stressful for me. I have nipped 3 additional times with less familiar people each time while in my kennel or during transitions into/out of my kennel (putting leash on/off). My trainer and rescue family have noticed a trend that I typically only react when I am in a small, confined space with people I do not know well. However, during my first grooming appointment, I did wonderful even with a new person in a new space!

I thrive with a routine and would love a home that doesn’t get too many strangers or visitors. I am not a dog that would enjoy coming with you to brunch, I’m too much of a homebody so please let me stay at home. My new home would need lots of patience and plenty of time to decompress and build trust. Once I trust you, I am a very sweet, loyal companion!
