My story

Juniper is going to be a wonderful and loving companion for the right, experienced owner. She has several endearing features of a Catahoula. She is very intelligent, a quick learner, quite focused and engaged with her foster mom, and deeply loyal. When she is well exercised, she is quiet for long periods of time, and rests in the house calmly. When she is under-exercised or not mentally stimulated, though, she can chew up things from counters and floors.
Juniper had a hard life living her first two years on the street in Texas before she made her way to a shelter there with a small companion dog, she had been roaming the streets with. She was then transferred to a rescue in CT. She has been fostered in a home since August, and there Junie has made great strides with potty training (almost perfect but still has some accidents but will let you know when she needs to go out), and family living. She lives with three other dogs, large and small, who she adores. She is very pack-oriented and is comforted by being near the other dogs. She is gentle with the small dogs, and loves playing with the larger dog.
June is great in the crate, and sleeps there at night. This is important because she needs to spend time there when her foster family has guests, because she has become somewhat protective, and often barks or growls at the guests. Her fosters are working on this, and June is showing slow improvement, but the right home will need to be patient and ready to work with her more. Her greatest challenge is that her foster yard has a 4-foot fence that June jumps when she feels like it.
June is deeply loving and affectionate and will be an amazing dog in the right patient and loving home. She would do well with an owner who is experienced with the breed, and who can give her the physical exercise and mental stimulation she needs.

Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family.

If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered.

Juniper’s adoption donation is $350 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test, is on preventative, microchip and neuter depending on age at time of adoption. If the dog is too young for a spay/neuter then they will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract and deposit. We do not have a physical shelter; all our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.

Additional adoption info

We have a written application followed by a phone interview. If the applicant is approved past this point then we check 2 personal references as well as their vet reference. If they rent we speak with their landlord as well. If all is well at this point then we do a home check. The final step is a meet and greet where the adopter and the household, including dogs travel to meet the new adoptive dog. If all goes well they can adopt. There is an adoption contract and the adoption fee ranges between $200-400 depending on the fees that we put into the particular dog.

Go meet their pets

We support local "ma & pa" business before the big box chains since many of us come from some communities. We also attended fairs and "meet & greet" events.

More about this rescue

We are all volunteers that love and appreciate the breed. Our board members all have many years of breed knowledge and have all adopted or fostered rescued animals.
