AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION - WILLIE

BREED - Dachshund Mix
SIZE - About 24 pounds
AGE - 4 years
GENDER - Male
MEDICAL CONCERNS - None known
BEHAVIOR CONCERNS - None known
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - Willie is a lovely dog! That said, we must share that Willie loves the ladies, but is selective with men and may take a long time to trust them. He is very affectionate and sweet with people he knows and loves, but is hesitant with strangers and can be protective of his humans. Willie was originally adopted to a family in 2021 from our rescue, but has been returned after two years. The family is working through a health crisis, and Willie has been unaccepting of the caregivers coming in and out of the home. We feel Willie is best suited to a very stable and consistent environment, and we are grateful to his family for giving him the opportunity to thrive during a difficult time for them. Willie is healthy, fully grown at 24 pounds and is a housebroken gentleman. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date with all vaccines, and has been consistently on heart worm prevention his entire adult life. He lived in the home with another dog his size and age, and will likely be good with other dogs who are around his size. He is not cat tested. In addition to a consistent home, we are seeking a home with an active, experienced adopter who has the ability to work from home or be at home the majority of the day to spend time with Willie. A home with a fenced, secure yard will give him a safe environment for exercise and potty breaks, and a home without small children or very small dogs is a must.

Our adoption process starts with your email to carerescue@aol.com or Adopt a Pet inquiry. After we receive it, we will email you our prescreening questionnaire. Your answers will help us determine that your home and lifestyle matches the needs of the dog and our adoption criteria. Once determined, we will set up a private meeting with you and the dog at a park near our private kennel just east of Richmond. After meeting the dog and determining that it matches your preferences for a pet, we will accept your application. A home visit by one of our trained volunteers is required for all adoptions, and we will speak with your vet to ensure that you are a responsible pet owner.
