My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Skay, a dog who truly embodies beauty both inside and out. This special boy came to us as a rescue from another shelter and has called Dog Tales home for many years due to his protective nature and the specialized care he requires.

Skay has a deeply protective demeanour that makes him very reactive when it comes to safeguarding his people and his space. This protective instinct makes introducing him to new people quite challenging, as he takes his role as guardian very seriously. However, once Skay gets to know you and decides you're part of his trusted circle, he'll greet you with the sweetest gesture - a gentle head bow paired with a happy tail wag that shows his acceptance and affection.

When it comes to meeting new people, Skay does much better in outdoor settings where he feels less territorial and more at ease. However, bringing visitors into his home environment requires extensive management and careful planning. He needs his own safe space where he can retreat and decompress when the situation becomes overwhelming for him.

One of Skay's wonderful qualities is how exceptionally clean he is, taking pride in his appearance and surroundings. He's a dog of balanced energy who genuinely loves going on long walks where he can explore and patrol his extended territory, but he equally enjoys quieter moments lounging and relaxing in comfort.

Skay is looking for a very special home that can appreciate his protective nature while providing the structure and understanding he needs to thrive. His ideal family would be experienced dog owners who understand reactive dogs and are prepared to manage his territorial instincts carefully. He needs people who can respect his need for space and time to warm up to newcomers, and who can provide him with the consistent leadership that helps him feel secure. With the right family who understands his unique personality, Skay has the potential to be an incredibly loyal and devoted companion who will show his gentle, loving side to those he trusts most.

Additional adoption info

Due to the high volume of applicants, we are only able to move forward with families that are ready to adopt now. If you aren’t ready to adopt now, please apply when you are ready to welcome a dog into your home. After your initial appointment, once the adoption has been approved, we will require the dog to be picked up within one week unless we determine otherwise.

Our hope is that all homes are a forever home, however we understand that circumstances can change, and that sometimes it just isn't the right fit. Whether you discover this three days after the adoption, or three years after the adoption, we will always welcome our dogs back with open arms. Their well-being is our top concern.

All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, examined by a vet, dewormed, given flea and tick prevention, groomed

Our adoption fees:

Under 1 year old (11 months or less) - $950
1-7 years old - $800
8+ years old - $500
Sanctuary - $50
Palliative* - $50
Special Needs* - $50
Bonded pairs - 30% off the total price

*For Palliative and Special Needs dogs we will discuss on a case by case basis what Dog Tales will cover financially, if applicable
