My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Buster Scruggs.  I am a male Boston Terrier.  I am a super spunky, affectionate, cuddly, wiggle butt.  I’m not much of a fetcher, but do love my tennis balls and chew bones.  I enjoy sunbathing with my humans and leisurely strolls around the neighborhood.  I am a great walker.  I love to take in new smells and may gently guide you where I’d like to explore, but am also perfectly happy letting you take the lead.  I am also very gentle when accepting treats and food by my humans and I will show you what a statuesque sitter I can be.  I do get the zoomies when I come in from the cold outdoors and can be very playful at times, but my favorite thing to do is relax close to my humans, especially if you have a cozy spot on the couch for me.  I bet we even like to watch the same shows and I promise to share the blanket.  I have been respectful of my fenced backyard boundaries and have not attempted any grand escapes.  Did I mention how much I love car rides?  I am a great traveling companion as I stay calm and do not get car sick.  I am also a good boy roaming the house when you’re away.  I have not chewed on anything that doesn’t belong to me or had accidents.  I also do well being confined in your absence.  It makes me sad to see you go so I will whine and may bark a couple of times, but I settle down quickly for a nap while I await your return.  I am dog sociable but will do best in an only pet household because I like to keep all toys and chews to myself.  I have been around cats and with immediate supervision I will respect their personal space, however, when no one is looking I will charge them and could cause harm.  I am very eager to please and respond great to verbal commands and love positive reinforcement.  I am a happy-go-lucky, man’s best friend and am patiently waiting to greet my new family with lots of kisses and cuddles.

The Basics

Age: 5

Weight: 26 lbs

Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Microchipped: Yes

Vaccines Up-to-Date: Yes

On Heartworm Prevention: Yes

House-Trained: Yes

Crate-Trained: Yes

Leash Skills: I sit patiently while putting on my harness or collar and have great manners on our walks.

Medical: When I spend a long time running or playing hard, my back leg bothers me so I will keep weight off it until it subsides.  The vet says I have some slight movement in the knee in my back left leg, but nothing concerning.  She has provided me with some pain medicine when it is aggravated.  I am a healthy and vibrant boy.

Likes/Dislikes

Toys: I love toys.  Preferably durable or rubber toys because I do like to unstuff fluffies.  I also love sitting down to a good chew fest on an antler or other chew bone.

Other Animals: I like other dogs and interact with them fine as long as there are no toys or chew bone type things available.  I will run and play with them just fine, but no fetching because everything is mine and I get upset when another dog tries to take my toys and will lash out. We are going to work with a trainer on this.

People/Kids: My foster family has teenagers and I love to shower them with kisses.

Car Rides: I am an excellent car rider.

Separation: I settle down quickly when my humans leave and am content napping while they’re away.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption fee is generally based on the dog's age and provides for neutering or spaying, all required shots, heartworm testing (we endorse "the new moxie-doxy" treatment for heart worms).

It is our expectation & a requirement that heartworm preventative be continued as well as any required vet visits after the pet is adopted.

If for some reason a match isn't made the first time around and you are approved, we will keep your application on file for the next opportunity to arise. Our primary goal is to place a dog in the most suitable environment, based on the animal's individual needs and its temperament. The commitment is lifelong and the Boston's interests are always foremost.

More about this rescue

All breeds have their own particular needs and rescued pets often have special requirements as well, very often in want of medical care, often lacking nourishment and kindness, and often expensive to rehabilitate.

Because we have had Boston Terriers for many years, we are very familiar with their habits, peculiarities and their special needs.

We operate across the southeast under the auspices of the Boston Terrier Rescue Network. We share information and resources in all of the USA with affiliated Boston Rescues.
