My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Howie!!!

He is doing so wonderful in his foster home !! His foster mom says he is the sweetest and best dog!! Gets along with other dogs just needs a slow introduction ,house trained, crate trained, great with kids, just a great guy!!!

Howie is a 7 year old Jack Russell mix and around 20 pounds. He has had a lot of disappointment in his life, but he still wants to find his forever family and be able to love and be loved!!

Can you give this sweet boy the stability and forever home he dreams of, so he doesn’t have to keep being moved around through no fault of his own??? He will need someone who can be patient with him as he learns to trust you but once he does you’ve got a faithful companion for life!

Hello, This is Howie, he is a Jack Russell Terrier Mix, and he is 7 years old. He is up to date on all vaccines and he is neutered. I am in the Clarksville area, but can travel to bring him to the rescue. We had to bring another dog into our home and Howie isn't getting along with him. We rescued Howie back in February, he was previously abused and starved for years. He is pretty anxious and needs lots of affirmation. We are a young couple, so we don't have any children in the home, we don't know how he is with children. He seems to be okay with pre-existing dogs, just not new dogs. He is not fond of visitors, so we kennel him when people come over, he has never bitten anyone, but we don't want to take the chance. We are trying to avoid the shelter because it will be his third time back, and they might euthanize him. He is the sweetest most loving boy around, he loves to cuddle and will cuddle all day long if you let him. We think he would do better in a home with an older adult without children or other dogs. We are young, have lots of visitors, and work long hours, Howie is kenneled most of the time and it isn't fair. We tried to rehome, but haven't had any luck. We can't keep him much longer but want him to be in a more welcoming environment than the shelter.

More about this rescue

Russell Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) dog rescue organization. It was started in 2008 by Mary Ruth Rogers of Columbia, TN. Our mission is to save and re-home unloved, abandoned and abused dogs, especially the Jack Russell terrier. Most of our dogs come from high kill shelters in Tennessee, and other nearby states.
