My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dottie is 25.8 lbs of pure love and motion, though she is still just a baby at a little over 3 months old. We think she is a Pointer mix, so she will be a large dog.

Despite her young age, she's already good at keeping her crate clean overnight, but will need patience and consistency to perfect her overall housebreaking skills. She has already grasped some important basic commands including sit, go to bed, leave it, and quiet.

One of a litter of six puppies born to a stray in MIssissippi, she’s currently being fostered with 2 of her littermates in Collingswood, NJ, which is where meet & greets will take place prior to adoption. Despite being the largest female, she is more timid and needs encouragement to try new things. She is very affectionate, loves to be held and petted.

Dottie is a total sweetheart, smart, curious, and playful. When she's not rough-housing with other dogs at her foster’s home, she's learning manners and impulse control. Like all puppies, she requires regular naps throughout the day, frequent potty breaks, 3 meals per day, and tons of love, affection and handling.

Her perfect family will have time to spend with Dottie playing, socializing and training her. A fur-sib and/or human children would be nice but not essential, as long as she gets plenty of daily exercise, contact and attention, she will blossom. Due to her energy level and eventual size, a fenced yard is required. Continued use of a crate until Dottie is completely housebroken and trust-worthy is absolutely essential.

Please email us at AlmostHome4Dogs@yahoo.com for more info or an application. (Local adoptions preferred — Philadelphia and tri-state area [South Jersey and northern Delaware] only.)

NOTE: Most puppies do best in the company of an older dog who can teach them "doggy manners," so homes with at least one other dog usually will be given preference in puppy adoptions. Please read Suzanne Clothier's wonderful article, "It Takes a Pack to Raise a Puppy!" PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING US! We are NOT a shelter: All of our dogs live in private homes with foster families.

Come and meet the Almost Home dogs and their fosters at our Meet & Greet events, where you can learn more about our wonderful dogs from the people who live with them, find out which dogs are on their way and when they’ll arrive, and fill out an application to adopt or foster. We cannot adopt to homes where electric-shock fencing systems or training collars are used. For more information on the dangers of electric-shock collars, please visit banshockcollars.ca/studies.php .

We do not have an online adoption application; to request an application, e-mail us atAlmostHome4Dogs@yahoo.com. To speed e-mail processing time, be sure to note the name of the dog you are inquiring about in the Subject line. For Meet & Greet times and locations, visit our home page, where you also will find information on our adoption process and fees.

FOSTER FAMILIES ARE LIFESAVERS!! Can you open your heart and home for a few weeks to homeless shelter dog? Remember, by fostering a dog, you save TWO lives — that of your foster dog, and that of the dog who takes his place in the shelter! Come to a Meet & Greet and find out if fostering is for you — there's no reward quite like the feeling that you've saved a life ... or two!

More about this rescue

We are a small group of volunteers whose goal is to save the lives of homeless dogs suffering in high-kill shelters. In doing so, we hope to provide an alternative to the purchase of puppy-mill and pet-store dogs, thereby reducing the demand for and ultimately the supply of such dogs. We strive to match each dog with the right family after the dog has been observed in a foster home.
