My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Greetings! I am Magic - formerly known as Fonzy. I am a very special boy with a lot to offer. First and foremost, my Magic dust! You'll be so charmed by me that the only explanation is something supernatural!
I have lived a super hard life in my short year and a half on your mortal earth. I was on my own - I don't know how long it was but my hair got very matted and I got really skinny while I was a free man. I can be a little stand offish with new people, but if you give me a minute, I'll come to you when I am ready to share my charms. When you come meet me, don't forget that whiffle balls are my favorite!"

Magic is a 1.5 year old boy who loves being active! He loves fetch, frizbee, walks, and car rides! He is a busy body who likes having things to do. He is a brilliant dog who can be taught any trick or skill. So far, he knows Sit, Down, Come, and his name! He is also working on learning Shake, Spin, and Speak.

In his foster home, Magic has learned basic dog skills like housebreaking, playing with toys, sharing his space with humans, and is working on life with other animals. He loves going for walks in nature! He is a fantastic hiking buddy with very good leash manners.

Magic went without essentials for too long. He is learning to appreciate warm beds, regular meals, vet care, and most importantly, endless love. He has so much potential to grow, and we want him to blossom into the gentleman we know he can be!

Magic has been repeatedly failed by humans and it shows. He will do best in a home with no other dogs, and no people under the age of 18. With proper socialization and behavior modification, he may be able to live with other animals in the future. Magic takes daily medication for anxiety and this will need continued during transition to a new home. It is possible that he will be able to be weaned off this medication in the future.

Magic is being fostered in southern Lancaster county. Interested adopters must be willing to travel to his foster home to meet him, and bring along any current dogs for the meet and greet. Magic is neutered, heartworm negative, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and has been treated with monthly parasite preventatives. Please apply online at www.zoeshouserescue.com to schedule a time to speak with his foster mom for more information about him.

More about this rescue

Who We Are:
Zoe's House, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare group based out of Sinking Spring,PA. We are comprised solely of volunteers that generously volunteer their time, their homes and their hearts. We are dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected or abandoned animals from high kill shelters or from owners who can no longer care for them. We provide the animals with loving foster care, veterinary treatment and rehabilitation until we are able to pair them with compatible and loving forever homes. At times we also offer permanent sanctuary to those with special or medical needs and that are considered unadoptable.

Zoe's House serves as a resource to our community and to our adopters by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, the importance of spay/neuter, behavior training, nutrition, puppy mill awareness, heartworm preventative and breed education. Our organization also networks with other shelters and rescues. We try to assist other organizations when possible.

Zoe’s House is not federally funded, and relies solely on donations to continue to rescue. Although we are not breed specific, the need to save Dobermans, Rottweilers, German Shepherds and Pitbulls is ever growing; therefore, we have focused primarily on saving the lives of our beloved and majestic strong breeds.

What We do:
There are many people involved in the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of each dog we take in. Our rescue effort starts with the initial intake request for a dog. Whether this be at a shelter of from an individual in the community, we try to gather as much information as we can. We then pickup or transport the dog to safety in rescue. At this time we administer immediate veterinary care to determine the health of the dog and ensure the animal has proper immunizations. We also have bloodwork done for a heartworm check, lyme, fecal and sometimes a blood panel depending on the age and health of the dog. The dog remains in "in-home" foster care and becomes a part of the fosters family for an undefined period of time. We evaluate the dog and work on basic manners and obedience. At times we have dogs for a longer duration due to health and/or age. The dogs in our care come with us to adoption events, home screenings, and ultimately permanent placement. Zoe's House then provides post-adoption follow-up and support and welcomes the new family to the "Zoe's House Family!" We strive to stay in close contact with all of our adopters to ensure the transition and life long relationship continues to be magical. We remain dedicated to the principal that we never want one of our rescues to end up in a shelter or in a home that does not provide a responsible and loving environment for the life of the animal.

We truly believe that one dog at a time... we are making a difference!
