My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Critter is a fun, sweet and energetic boy with the most gorgeous brown eyes. He was picked up as a stray and brought to us for chasing pigs and killing chickens- farm life is just not for him! He likes cats and other dogs but is really strong, so young kids would not be a good fit. Critter is very active and craves human attention.  He has such good energy and we joke that he tap dances because his little paws are constantly going up and down with excitement. He is housetrained and leash trained.  He tested positive for Heart Worms and just finished his treatment - he will need to be on HW preventative the rest of his life. Critter does well on a leash, is already neutered and current on shots. He is currently 3-4 years old and weighs 50lbs. If you would like more information, please contact our shelter at 870-269-5200 or go to our website at schspets.org and complete an adoption application and someone will contact you for a meet and greet.

More about this shelter

The Stone County Humane Society is a 501(C)(3) private organization, not a government entity that was formed in 1999. We rescue dogs and cats and are a no-kill shelter but we are not an open take in facility. We are currently operating from our new shelter building recently completed in August 2016 and a cat cottage. Our organization is managed by a volunteer board of 10 individuals and a full-time paid employee shelter manager that handles the day to day operations, and three part-time paid employees that feed and care for the animals and keep the facility clean. Most of our daily operations are funded by proceeds from a Second Chance Shop in town and donations from individuals. We also provide low cost spay/neuter clinics to the people of our county with help from a local vet.
