My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"A dog has one aim in life - to bestow her heart." The reminds us of our precious Junie.

Juniper, or "Junie" as we lovingly call her, found herself in quite a situation a few months ago - heavily pregnant and nowhere to go. Thankfully, she was brought to CCAC - and in the nick of time. She went to foster and gave birth to 4 puppies the very next day.

Junie took a long time to trust her foster mom - we don't know if she had a bad experience with humans or just not enough interaction to realize they are safe - but it took a bit of time. Her foster mom was patient and waited until she was ready. After a few weeks of sharing yummy treats and just sitting and talking while she nursed her puppies, Junie decided hey, this isn't so bad! She turned into the biggest lovebug ever - jumping for joy and all wiggles when she saw "her people".

The time came for Junie's puppies to be weaned and for her to head back to the shelter. She struggled with this transition at first, but slowly she has made new shelter friends who walk her and give her treats. She is still a nervous girl and takes a little time to make sure she feels safe before she opens up, but once she does, you'll feel like the most special person in the world. She is absolutely worth the wait. Dogs like Junie have a hard time getting adopted since they don't run right up to the front of the kennel, but there is such a beautiful reward in gaining her trust - you would never regret it.

Junie is easy on the leash, cat friendly, possibly dog friendly (but would require a meet and greet to ensure compatibility), and good with calm, older children who will go at her pace. She is housebroken, too. She LOVES couch snuggles and giving "hugs" She is just 1-2yrs old, heartworm negative, fully vetted including spayed, and ready to find her forever home.

Junie is doing so well with the shelter staff and volunteers who dote on her. She is a sought after walking companion and enjoys being close by your side to explore the trails on our beautiful shelter grounds She loves to stretch out and relax on the outdoor couch after her walks. Junie also has a great time running and playing in the fenced yard.

Junie also adores quality cuddle time and belly rubs are one of her favorite things.

This lovely dog will be such a devoted part of the family lucky enough to take her home!

More about this shelter

Cheatham County Animal Control is committed to finding good homes for the animals that come into the shelter system. We work with rescues and adopters. We are a no kill shelter but we rely on people coming in to adopt!

All of our cats/dogs receive vaccinations that are appropriate for the age and health when they are at animal control. We also spay and neuter all of our animals. The adopter is responsible for all vaccinations and medical care after adoption.
