My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

ROMEO hails from CAT LAKE in Northern Ontario and he came south with his mum and 5 siblings to find his forever home. His mum is a Labrador Retriever/Gt Pyrenees mix and weighs 60lbs but his dad is unknown. The breed mix we have him listed as and the size he’ll grow to be is just a guess as we really have no way of knowing. He’s had his first and second sets of puppy vaccines, a microchip and been deemed a healthy boy by our vet. His nick name is Chunk due to being the biggest in the litter. He’s a happy-go-lucky, confident and fun loving guy who loves nothing better than giving out puppy kisses and cuddling with you.
ROMEO is crate trained and sleeps quietly in it through the night and will also take his naps in there during the day. His house training is going well and he has very few accidents in the house now and when taken out for a bathroom break he will usually go. He’s doing well on his leash and really enjoys going on walks. He’s a well socialized energetic puppy who loves to play with with all sorts of toys and play chase with the resident dogs in his foster home. He would love to find a family who will take him on walks, hikes and basically enjoy being outside with him. He does okay in a vehicle but it’s not his favourite place to be and a couple of times he’s been in one he’s had an upset tummy. He hasn’t met a cat but if the cat is dog savvy and with a monitored introduction they should get along okay. Children should be aged 6 and up and he does require a fenced-in yard.

Puppies are fun and cute but also require a lot of work, patience and dedication to training. We need his potential adopter to be in agreement to sign him up for obedience/puppy training in order to adopt him.
His neuter is included in his adoption fee and will be performed at the Barrie SPCA by the time he’s 8 months of age or reaches 60lbs (whichever comes first.) We also need you to be in agreement with this in order to adopt him.
If you would like to meet ROMEO then please submit the adoption application to do so.

Additional adoption info

Dogs: $750 (as of March 2024)
Cats: $250
The adoption process involves a brief application for the pet you are interested in. We will review your application and if you appear to be a good match for the pet, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that is successful we then do a vet reference check. If all goes well we will then set up a meet and greet for you and anyone else living in the home including any resident dogs with the pet. We then ask you to go home and contemplate your decision on adopting the pet and let us know your decision within 24hrs of meeting the pet. If applicable we will then move forward with the adoption at a mutually agreed upon time.

Go meet their pets

We only set up meet and greets with our animals once an adoption application has been submitted. We do occasionally have meet and greets with our animals at Global Pet Foods in the Barrie area.

You can check out the available pets on our rescuegroups website or on our rescue Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We’re a small rescue with a big mission to save animals in our Northern communities, local Pounds and owner surrenders (under certain circumstances.) We’re located in Barrie, Ontario and we serve the area of Simcoe County and within a two hour radius of the Barrie area.
Our intakes are placed in loving foster homes until they’re assessed, vetted including vaccines, microchip and a spay/neuter (if over 6 months of age) before they leave the rescue to be adopted. Female puppies are spayed at 6 months of age and males 8 months of age.)
We’re always looking for additional foster homes as we can only do intakes if we have foster homes for them to go into.
