This gentle and petite hippo came to us from Santa Cruz County Animal Services where she was originally was an animal control case earlier this year. She was discovered on a property with several other dogs, all seemingly well cared for except Twiggy, who was visibly undernourished.
Despite this rough period in her life, Twiggy is now ready to share a warm loving home with her furever family.
Twiggy can be timid initially but given time and patience, she's as sweet as can be! She loves her toys, especially playing tug o'war and fetch with her foster parents. Her favorite activities consist of walks, rolling in the grass, and long cuddle sessions on the couch!
Due to her past, Twiggy is looking for a very patient and quiet home that can continue showing her all the love that life has to offer as well as continuing positive socialization. Experienced adult adopters or families with children over the age of 12 would best best for Twiggy. She gets along great with both dogs and cats, but should be introduced slowly to any animal in the home over time.
Twiggy will require pre-registration for continued training following adoption to continue all she is learning in foster-care (how to dog again). It's important to keep in mind that Twiggy came to us form an extremely neglectful environment where she was treated poorly, her new family will need to be patient and kind to her, utilizing positive reinforcement training only to continue her progress.
Twiggy is currently in foster care. An in-person meet and greet can be scheduled once an online application has been received and approved. https://animalfriendsrescue.org

Additional adoption info
Adoption fees help to cover the cost of the care the animal has received during their time with us, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment and basic foster care.
All potential adopters complete an application and are screened using a standardized series of questions by a trained adoption counselor. If the application and screening are satisfactory, a qualified adopter can complete a contract, pay the adoption fee and take the animal home.
