Scooby is a 7-year-old, 6 pound, adorable little fawn-colored male Chihuahua. He was owner-surrendered due to owner financial issues. His liquid chocolate brown eyes are enough to melt your heart! He totally loves his people (has not been tested with children, but because of his small size, young children are not advised). He is a total homebody and loves his home people, his crate and space, and a small fenced area to potty and walk around. He hasn’t had a lot of leash training in his life, but he’s not highly motivated to explore the outdoors anyway. He really loves the warmth and comfort of his home. His world consists of pleasing his people. He is totally happy with snuggling beside you in a chair or quietly staying in his crate at night or while you are away from the house. He travels well in a crate during car trips too.
He’s a great eater and loves his food (kibble mixed with a tiny bit of canned), but because he has luxating patellas (slippy knees), he does not need to gain weight. Slippy knees are very common in small dogs and Scooby’s are a grade 2 out of 4 and do not need surgical intervention.
He’s doing a great job with house-training after his neuter, so if you take him outside regularly, he should transition nicely. Grooming is a breeze with his smooth coat.
He sounds like the perfect Chi, doesn’t he? Well, as his foster mom, I think he’s a winner; however, he does have one issue that we’ve been working diligently on. He loves his spaces and people sooooo much that he can sometimes be a bit overprotective of them especially while he transitions to a new home. He will growl and snap at other pets until he feels secure with his position in the home. Now that might sound scary, and it is something that will have to be addressed consistently and immediately every time it happens, but hopefully he will transition more quickly if the adopter will maintain a watchful eye and monitor other pets in the household to respect his space during the introduction period. He has responded so well in his foster home, and everyone gets along just fine. Because he’s such a people person, he would probably do well as an only pet too.
Currently, he has been neutered, had a dental (lost 10 small teeth), been tested for heartworms (neg), and is current on HW/flea prevention and vaccines. If you think Scooby could melt your heart, please contact SBRET to start a trial period. His adoption fee is $175.
