My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you are looking for a dog who will be your most loyal companion with striking good looks and the best puppy eyes ever ....you’ve found her!  Meet Jessica – your typical Australian Shepherd who has a zest for life!

However, Jessica is not your average family dog.  Due to her high level of intelligence and energy she needs adequate physical and mental stimulation.  Although Aussie’s enjoy being outside, hours alone in the yard isn’t going to cut it for this girl.  This breed is always looking for a “job” to do:  puzzle games, dock diving, Frisbee, agility training, Treibball, or fly ball are a few activities Jessica would thrive in.  She would love to join you on adventures to the park, breweries, kids’ sporting events, family outings, camping, or hiking.  Even an active game of fetch or a great running session with another canine companion would give her the opportunity to get those zoomies out. Any variety of these activities on a daily basis is going to keep Jessica a happy pup!

Jessica comes to you house and crate trained, walks well on a leash, is well-behaved during car rides, is not vocally reactive (although she may let out the occasional “awooo!” as she’s heading out the door for her morning potty break).   She is also command trained:  she knows "sit", "down", “off”, “all done” and more!  Cats are unknown, but she seems to have a low prey drive.

With all this talk about Jessica’s energy, she does have a quiet side to her.  She is a sensitive girl and will look to you for reassurance, if she’s feeling apprehensive.  She knows her bedtime and will cue you around 7:30 PM that she’s tired and ready….are you?  But no blankets at bedtime for Miss Jessica as she’s proven she can’t resist chewing on her binkies.  Oops!

Due to Jessica’s high energy needs, below is a wish list for her forever home:

  • Must have experience with high-energy breeds or at a minimum have a deep understanding of dog behavior.  This goes beyond being a previous dog owner.

  • Must have the ability to be the alpha in the dog/owner relationship.  Herding and high-energy dogs need someone who can offer appropriate redirection when necessary.

  • It is important that her forever home understand her needs for daily mental enrichment and physical activity.  Jessica needs to be in an active household! (see above for examples of what an active household may look like for Jessica)

  • Jessica tends to show her affection by making a beeline for ears and giving love nibbles (this is a work in progress - apparently her foster’s ears are very delicious), so at this time we would recommend a household with children over 11 years old.

Additional adoption info

We want to be sure that the adoption process is as smooth and positive an experience as possible. Our animals are in foster homes and we do everything we can to learn as much about their likes and dislikes, temperament and activity level as we can while in our care. By doing so, it enables us to work more closely with a potential adopter to help ensure a "good fit." The adoption process might take a bit longer than adopting from a shelter, but our ultimate goal is finding a match that benefits not just the animal, but also the family interested in adopting.

We are looking to let our adopters chose the speed of the adoption process. To start the process, we require that an adoption application be completed. Once submitted, we will connect with you to discuss the type of animal you're looking for, your lifestyle and home environment, and what the best fit may be. At times, we may request to conduct a home visit, which can often be done in tandem with what we refer to a "meet and greet" where you have the opportunity to meet and interact with the animal(s) you're interested in adopting. Ad part of our process we conduct background check on all applicants, will check personal and vet references also. Our goal is always the proper placement for any adopted animal, which may mean that the animal you originally are interested in may turn out to not be the best fit, but we will work with you to find a better match. Adoption fees include spaying/neutering of all animals, age appropriate vaccinations ad microchipping and range anywhere from $80-$175 for cats and $200-$450 for dogs.

Prior to finalizing adoptions we require a signed Contract & Agreement which includes an understanding that if for any reason the animal does not work out that you will return them back to The Rescue Crew.

Go meet their pets

As all of our animals are in private foster homes, we do not have a facility where adoptable animals can be met. However, we do host adoption events occasional throughout the Twin Cities metro area, and those will be posted both on our website and Facebook pages.

More about this rescue

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Minnesota-based animal rescue organization which strives to prevent the unnecessary euthanasia of companion animals by finding them loving forever homes. The Rescue Crew was established specifically to fill a need in the local Twin Cities metro area to help shelter animals facing imminent risk of euthanasia without rescue support.

OUR MISSION: We are here to help save the lives of companion animals in need. Those who are homeless; the abused or abandoned; the neglected and unloved, and to show them human compassion and kindness, ultimately helping them become valued family members in a loving home.

OUR VISION: We envision the day where every adoptable animal has the opportunity of finding a responsible, loving home. A world where pets are no longer mistreated, abused or abandoned.
