Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Mara von Mariental is a beautiful 10-11 month old German Shepherd. Mild-mannered Mara is a super smart, super sweet, and super sensational dog. With medium energy, Mara comes out of her kennel calm and ready for her walk. She is a master at heel and will stay by your side, only stopping to sniff and explore the neighborhood. She does great with meeting face to face with other dogs and can walk in a pack without issues. In her playground, she is more of a mingler, wandering around the yard and greeting other dogs politely. She prefers coming up to people for pets and loves getting some butt rubs or scratches along her beautiful coat. She is such a smartypants and is a top student at “sit,” “down,” and “shake” and even takes treats gently from your hand. We can’t wait to see where Mara calls her forever home! Come and visit Mara today!

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
