My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you're a lover of senior dogs, Curtis is the one you need to take home NOW. We don't know much about Curtis's past other than he wound up at an overcrowded Texas shelter suffering from mange. He was missing a lot of fur and his skin was raw, itchy, and flaky. Despite his apparent discomfort, the first thing Curtis did on the ride to his foster home was lay his head on his rescuer's lap. Since then, Curtis has been nothing short of wonderful. He's so sweet and his love of life is apparent in everything he does. He might be a senior dog, but Curtis loves to play and he especially loves the company of other dogs. Sometimes you might even catch him acting like a puppy!

Curtis's mange has been treated and his skin is looking great. Future adopters might continue a medicated bath once a week for a few more weeks, just because it is good for him and it is helpful for the healing process. Curtis has been thoroughly examined by our vet and the only note was his thyroid: this is managed through daily medication that is about $30 a month. A small price to pay for getting to be loved by the most wonderful boy in the world!

House trained: Yes - accidents when he first arrived to his foster home but he has learned the routine
Leash trained: Yes - he loves walks
Kennel trained: Yes, but  he isn’t the biggest fan of it just because he would rather be with people
Rides well in a car: Yes - loves car rides traveling both in and out of a kennel
Good with other dogs: Wonderful with dogs of all ages and sizes
Good with cats: Not fostered with cats, but he doesn't mind the neighborhood cats he has met
Good with young children (under 10): Not fostered with children - he might be too big around them, and he's a little mouthy when he plays
Shy or confident: Confident once he’s comfortable
Barks: Only when the other dogs bark and when he sees animals in the yard at night that shouldn’t be there
Apartment qualified: Depends - he would be fine if he was taken on walks daily, but we would need to be mindful of stairs multiple times a day as he continues to age
Health concerns or special needs: He is on a medication for his thyroid that he will need to take the rest of his life (around $30/month)

We believe Curtis is a German Shepherd mix and was born around 1-22-2014. He is fostered in a private home in Lincoln. The adoption fee is $200 which helps cover the cost of vetting procedures. Adoptable pets will have received age-appropriate vaccines and dewormings, a microchip, heartworm test (if applicable) and a spay/neuter. If you’re interested in adopting this puppy/dog, please submit an inquiry or email BraveAnimalRescue@gmail.com to ask about our adoption process (please check your spam or junk email if you do not hear back from us within a few business days). We are 100% volunteer staffed and will respond to your email as soon as possible. After you have submitted an and been approved, we will set up a meet and greet between you and the puppy/dog. Please be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram to learn more about Brave Animal Rescue and our mission.

More about this rescue

We are an entirely foster-based rescue in Lincoln, Nebraska. Because we do not have a physical shelter location, our animals are placed directly into foster homes where they immediately begin learning how to be outstanding companion animals.
