My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Luke!

Luke is a 2-year-old terrier mix, weighing around 33 pounds, with a gentle heart and youthful energy. He is a sensitive boy who can feel unsure in new situations and may need some extra time to adjust to unfamiliar people. With patience and a calm approach, Luke begins to feel safe and shows his affectionate, playful side. He does best with adopters who understand that trust takes time and are willing to let him move at his own pace.

Because of his sensitivity, if there are children in Luke’s forever home, they must be ages 13 or older and able to respect his boundaries. Luke has shown potential with other dogs, but he can be hesitant, so slow, thoughtful introductions will be essential for his comfort and success. At this time, we are unsure how Luke does with cats.

Luke is looking for a calm, supportive home where consistency, structure, and understanding will help him continue building confidence. With the right guidance, he has the potential to become a deeply loyal and loving companion.

If Luke sounds like the right match for you, stop in at The Humane Society of Summit County to meet him and see if you’re the one he’s been waiting for.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptable animals are up-to-date on all age appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, de-flea and microchipped before adoptions are finalized. All dogs over six months of age receive a temperament assessment by our Certified Professional Dog Trainer to ensure appropriate placement. Also, many animals in our care receive basic obedience training to improve manners and increase adoptability.

We are currently doing adoptions by appointment only. Please contact us by phone at (234) 212-9843 or email at adoptions@summithumane.org, and an adoption counselor will return your message. They will review our adoption process, answer any questions, and tell you more about the animals currently available for adoption at our shelter and in our foster program. If we have a match for you and your family, an appointment will be scheduled to meet the animal.

Additional questions can be directed to our adoption team at (234) 212-9843.
