My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🐶 🐕 POLLY Female Border collie mix approximately 2 years, 35 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶

Meet POLLY! Two-year-old Polly is just about the cutest thing you will ever see with her gorgeous curls and wiggly butt. She is a big lover in a small body. We’d love to see her add 3 – 5 pounds to her 35 pound frame. POLLY has become a sentimental favorite of her foster family. A great cuddler once she knows you, POLLY will want to be with you as much as possible.

Like many border collies, POLLY is initially shy with strangers, but she warms up pretty quickly with people who are willing to give her a minute or two to feel comfortable. She can startle, but recovers well too, as long as you let her know she doesn’t need to worry.  We’re confident that as she gains experience and develops trust, POLLY will become more confident in social situations and out in the world.

POLLY has lived with multiple dogs at her foster home and has done well with everyone, including small dogs. She loves wrestling and chasing her foster sisters and brothers. POLLY might really enjoy and benefit from having another happy, confident dog to live with. POLLY has been obsessed with her foster family’s cats, and will need a cat-free environment.

POLLY is treat-motivated and enjoys learning. She has a nice desire to please and picks things up quickly. She will certainly benefit from having her own someone, who will devote themselves to her training and building on her natural talents. For instance, Polly seems to naturally walk well on a leash. And she has a good “sniffer,” so we think she might really enjoy learning canine nosework/scentwork, a dog sport that really builds a bond between dog and human partner and builds confidence in the dog.

POLLY loves toys, especially Nylabones, Benebones, and marrow bones. These are favorite and safe chew toys for her. Plush, plastic, or rubber toys will not survive her “enthusiastic” chewing. She can play with these toys with supervision, but otherwise, you’ll want to pick them up until you can be with her. POLLY does well on walks. She can startle at bikes, scooters, etc., but she doesn’t bark at or move toward anyone. She simply lacks exposure and experience, so keeping her at a safe distance to observe her surroundings will help her grow more comfortable and confident.

POLLY is house and crate trained, resting comfortably in her crate as long as her exercise and stimulating activity needs have been met. She sleeps quietly in her crate overnight. POLLY is also incredibly smart and like many border collies will find things to do, if she is not given enough to do. She has kept her foster parents, who are super dog savvy, on their toes with her creativity and penchant for “problem-solving.” She will need to be securely contained when left unsupervised.

POLLY will make a wonderful companion for whoever lets her into their heart. We are looking for a home with someone who understands the needs of a young border collie, and the patience and training experience to help POLLY grow into the best dog she can be.

POLLY is micro-chipped, spayed, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about POLLY, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration.

POLLY is fostering in Citrus Heights in Sacramento County, CA.
