My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Coquita is a curious and lively mix, who at an estimated 5 years old was sadly found wandering in traffic. She’s 11 lb, very smart, and well behaved. She’s looking for a home as either an only dog, or with another well-rounded pup as well as some medium activity humans to take on adventures.

Environment

Coquita is house trained and x-pen trained. She sleeps through the night and knows how to use a pee pad if needed. She gets very excited when people are in the kitchen because she thinks it’s her time to shine. She can be quite vocal about it, so shared walls likely aren’t right for her. We don’t know how Coquita ended up loose in the road, so while a fenced yard isn’t mandatory, a close eye should be kept on her. She likes walks but is cautious around new dogs, so she will continue learning how to leash walk with confidence.

Pets & People

Coquita is great with people once she gets an adequate introduction. At first, she’s very cautious and timid. Once she’s comfortable she warms up quickly and provides ample energy and entertainment. The same goes for other dogs. She may take a little time and space but has adjusted to current company well.

Location

Coquita is available for adoption from Key Largo, FL. She will ONLY be adopted in South Florida as she hates the car and does not travel well. Please email juliejohnson@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Coquita is $375.00.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Go meet their pets

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
