Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hugo von Hundsbach is a stunning, 4-year-old red and black long-haired German Shepherd. Handsome Hugo is a fun, lovable dog whose gorgeous looks are sure to turn heads in the neighborhood. He would love to meet the perfect running or adventure partner who can continue his training. Hugo meets dogs well on leash and can even walk in a pack of six other dogs. In his playgroups he enters calmly and greets other dogs. He would prefer avoiding pushy dogs who are causing trouble and gets along better with females or other easygoing male dogs. With people, he is an absolute sweetheart who enjoys being petted all over his lush and luxurious fur. Hugo will blossom into the best friend and companion for that special someone who can shower him with love and welcome him into their forever home. Hugo sends hugs and is waiting to meet you!

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
