My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Archie is a very sweet senior (8-10 years) beagle who arrived here a few weeks ago when he was surrendered to us from a hunter. He had never lived inside and did have rotted teeth and a painful fistula that required surgery. He has been in a wonderful foster home enjoying the life of an inside dog. He has had dental surgery and had the fistula repaired. He has also been on a diet and is looking much better. He is now looking for a wonderful family who wants to adopt a sweet older boy.

Archie is a very sedate and laid back senior Beagle, who so far really likes to sleep and sniff. He is getting along fine with the resident cats and another small dog. He is starting to come out of his shell, he is showing an interest in squeaky toys but doesn't yet know what to do with them. He loves going on walks and is easy on the leash.

In the beginning he could barely move around and had to be carried up and down the 5 steps in and out of house, but 3+ weeks later he has no trouble on the 5 steps and can go on a slow but steady 20 minute walk twice a day plus little outings in between. He wants to greet the people and other dogs he sees on walks. He will take treats now too.

He loves being petted, you do have to pick him up and put him on the sofa because he can't jump up, but he will lay in your lap for as long you let him. He is fine in the car and in the bath too. He is a few pounds overweight, but going on walks will certainly help that and his joints. He is also on a joint supplement. Just a really easy going fellow who needs a warm and loving home to live out his golden years. (so far doesn't bark!).

Additional adoption info

We require an application. Once the application is received we check personal and vet references and if renting, we verify with leasing company that pets are allowed. If that is approved, we set up a meeting with the pet. We then perform a home check. If the person wants to adopt, we require a contract and our adoption fee is $300.00. Our dogs are all spayed/neutered, HW tested, up to date on shots and micro-chipped.

Go meet their pets

Our dogs are all kept in foster homes. Once an applicant is approved we set up a place for them to meet the pet.

More about this rescue

Homes Fur Hounds Inc. was formed to help the overwhelming number of animals that are abandoned, surrendered to county agencies and simply unwanted. These animals are facing death due to no fault of their own other than not being convenient. Our mission is to help stop the unnecessary killing of animals. Thousands of animals are put to sleep (some more humanely than others) every day. We strive to educate the public on the importance of spaying, neutering, heartworm preventive and general health care. We also strive to help owners who are experiencing difficulties with their pet find solutions to their problems. By helping them find solutions we keep the animals out of the county pounds and from being abandoned. It is our policy to adopt out only healthy dogs and to do our best to know and understand what type of home the dog needs. We are always striving to find that “forever home” for the animals.
