My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have had this sweet little girl here a few weeks and she is finally ready for adoption.

Sasha is an 11 pound, 11 year old Maltese/Bichon mix. She was surrendered to a shelter when her owners could no longer care for her.

She is so sweet and bright! She understands most basic commands and is totally house trained. She loves to play with her toys and loves her dog bed and blanket!
She's pretty independent and most of the time would rather sleep in her bed or in bed with the foster parents at their feet, rather than curling in their laps. And she loves her walks! She's very portable at 11lbs, and loves to ride in the car. She's a wonderful and loving little senior! She spent a few days in a home with other dogs and kids and she had the best time playing with both the dogs and the kids. She is very spunky for 11 and would do well with another dog or older children in the home.

The reason we waited to post her for adoption is we did some blood work on her and her liver enzymes did come back high. We did do further testing and she is not diabetic and does not have a thyroid disorder. We also ruled out Cushing's. We realized it was possible the food she was eating prior to coming here could have impacted her liver. Her kidney functions were normal so we waited a couple of weeks and re-ran the blood work and now everything is normal. She does have a low grade heart murmur but does not require any medication for that. Her blood pressure is also high so we do have her on medication for that. We did discover she had hook worms, which is an easy treatment with de-wormer.

So for now she just needs a pill for her blood pressure. No other medication is needed at this time. She is spayed, micro-chipped and up to date on vaccinations.

She is a wonderful senior for someone looking for a companion. For an application go to www.homesfurhounds.org. She is located in Williamsburg, Va.
