My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello friends! Allow me to introduce myself - my name is BURK. I'm approx. 8-year-old hound mix with a gentle soul and a heart full of love to give. I may be an older gentleman, but I've got plenty of love, life and wags left in me. I'm looking for a family to hang out with, cuddle on the couch, take gentle walks and snuggle.

I'm so excited for you all to meet me. I'm an an easy-going, loving boy who just wants a kind human to shower with affection. Don't let my age fool you - I still have a playful side that comes out when I get to explore the outdoors!

My favorite activities are cuddling up for belly rubs, going for leisurely strolls on the leash, and serenading my friends with plenty of hound dog howls and aroos. I'm a well-behaved boy who has perfect house manners and am potty trained. The only thing I struggle with is being a bit possessive over my food, (if there are other dogs) but I'm working on that with positive reinforcement.

Like many seniors, I do have a couple harmless quirks - some skin allergies that are treated with medication and a special diet. But I promise I'll be the perfect couch companion for watching TV and taking cat naps. I'm gentle, loving, and absolutely dote on my human friends.

I'm looking for a loving family to take me and and I'm hoping that you're all going to help me find a warm, loving home to spend my golden years. I have so much affection to give and all I want is a caring family to make memories with. I'm young at heart and have so much happy life to live!

Burk will have gone through a basic training program prior to adoption! In this program he will have learned proper heeling on a leash, basic obedience, place command, off leash recall, people and dog socialization, kennel training and more! After adoption process is finalized, the new owners will work with the trainer 1 on 1 to learn what Burk has learned in the program and how to keep up with training after going home. This will all be included in your adoption fee!

More about this rescue

Our mission is to save the lives of dogs facing euthanasia in high-kill shelters nationwide by pledging funds that enable rescues to take in, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need. On occasion, if we do not have a local rescue in place in the city the dogs are in, we bring them to Illinois to avoid their euthanasia. They are placed in boarding for vetting, once done, they are promoted for fostering or adoption.
