My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I’m the middle child Nico, I love other dogs, like cats and I’m positive I would love kids. I love to play and play and play but when I get tired I find somewhere soft and go to sleep without any fuss. I’m a natural at going to the bathroom on the paper as I’m too young to go outside but when that time comes I will learn real quick. I like my blanket and toys as well as my brother and sister we take turns being in charge.

I like being by my foster mom and can’t wait to find my own person or family. I am loving, loyal and aware of what is going on around me as much as a puppy my age can be. Loud noises don’t scare me I’m ok with the vacuum, lawn mowers, monthly sirens don’t bother me at all. I love it when my foster mom scratches me behind my ears and gives me belly rubs. I sit really well when I get brushed and my nails trimmed and don’t mind it when you play with my paws and ears you can even use your finger to brush my teeth it doesn’t bother me.

I like to give kisses, nose bops, play with my toys, my coat is really think and soft and you can pet me for as long as you want to. I’m super cute, smart and have a great attitude. I will be a loyal pup to my person or family , did I say I was pretty.

Nico is estimated to be 9 weeks old and 8 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested. If you are interested in meeting this dog please complete the adoption application on our website at http://www.safehandsrescue.org under Adopt and then we can contact you about setting up a meeting.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We only adopt out animals to homes within 60 miles of the Twin Cities. Our adoption process begins with the return of our pre-adoption form, available on our website. After reviewing your application a meeting is scheduled between you and the pup, sometimes in the fosters home or at a neutral dog friendly place. If any resident dogs are in your home, it is recommended that the pups meet at this time. After the meeting a home visit is scheduled and if everything goes well with the visit the adoption is finalized at that time. A home visit by one of Safe Hands representatives is REQUIRED prior to finalizing any adoption and we must meet all members of the household where the pup will be living sometime during the adoption process.

Go meet their pets

Come on out and meet all of our great adoptable pups!! On weekends we have meetings at random locations. See our events page on our website or social media.

More about this rescue

Safe Hands Animal Rescue is dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs in high kill shelters. We are now incorporated and 501(c)3 pending. Of great importance to us is to reduce the stray population and need for healthy animal euthanasia through spay/neuter programs, education, and promotion of respect for the furry creatures that share our lives.

We are a small, no-kill, volunteer run organization. All of our dogs listed are in foster homes waiting to be adopted and because of this, we get to know the dogs' personalities very well and use this information to match them to an appropriate home. We do not have a physical shelter.

This rescue is not funded by public funds nor does it receive many donations so it is dependent on adoption fees to keep operating. We have a great need for foster homes. If you are interested in providing foster care, and live within an hour of the Twin Cities, please e-mail us
Donations ALWAYS needed are: dog crates, puppy pee pads, natures miracle (for pet stain removal), Nutrisource brand puppy and dog food, Lysol disinfecting wipes, paper towels, large clean towels, dog toys, leashes, collars and gas cards to help with our transports.
