May 2nd is our Sacramento Region Big Day of Giving where we come together as a force of good! It's an incredible oppurtunity to make a direct impact on the lives of at risk shepherds. Your donation of a minimum of $10 provides crucial support and safe foster homes for puppies like Augustus and his littermates who were slated for euthanisia for space 5 days after their hold periods at their local municipal shelter for space. Please consider donating to help us continue our lifesaving efforts through Big Day of Giving.
Meet Augustus, who goes by Gus Gus, an adorable three-month-old shepherd pup ready to steal your heart! Gus Gus has been a lovely addition to his foster home, where he lives in a bustling household with the resident dog he snuggles and learns from, three resident cats, two birds, and a doting teenager.
Gus Gus is not only a smart pup but also a well-socialized one. He has been exposed to various experiences, including car rides and outings, which have helped him become comfortable in different environments. He's even had some pup cups to add fun to his life! Gus Gus loves his visits to Petco for treats and new harnesses, as he's been growing by leaps in the last three weeks. He has also been meeting little people and has even hung out in the family's RV in case his potential forever family likes to camp to get him used to new experiences.
As all puppies do, Gus is currently going through his teething phase. He has an assortment of bones and chew toys to help him redirect his chewing behavior onto appropriate items. He's also losing some baby teeth and gaining his adult teeth right on schedule.
He loves snuggling for TV time and enjoys watching Dr. Pol and other shows attentive for his young age. A quick learner and a pleaser, Gus Gus is learning the art of sitting, down, and other skills thanks to his fosters and his love of treats. His potty skills are on point, too, which will make him a paw-some addition to a family skilled at German Shepherds or similar breeds committed to raising a puppy to neutral adult dogs. Raising shepherd puppies requires a commitment to structure, training, and environmental exposures, along with lots of time.
Gus Gus arrived from the shelter with his three littermates, Archie, Arlo, and Zeux. They were on the euthanasia list five days after clearing their mandated hold period due to space. We are so grateful to our community for saying yes to save their lives. The pups are well-adjusted, happy puppies that would have been adopted from shelters if not for the overwhelming number of litters ending up at rural and urban CA shelters.
Another year, another amazing Sacramento SPCA Doggy Dash is in the books! We’re always honored and grateful to be part of this annual event. Our adoptable pups, including Augustus, were a hit. He also enjoyed seeing his littermate Archie and playing with Jouska and Puck. A huge heartfelt thank you to our volunteers who dedicated their time and travel to supporting us in spreading shepherd love (and glitter).
