This helps ShepHeroes with pet care costs.
May 2nd is our Sacramento Region Big Day of Giving where we come together as a force of good! It's an incredible oppurtunity to make a direct impact on the lives of at risk shepherds. Your donation of a minimum of $10 provides crucial support and safe foster homes for puppies like Arlo and his three littermates who were slated for euthanisia for space 5 days after their hold periods at their local municipal shelter for space. Please consider donating to help us continue our lifesaving efforts through Big Day of Giving.
Arlo, another one of our adorable three-month-old German Shepherd pups, is ready to find his forever home by the sunny shores of Santa Cruz! Like his litter mates Archie, Augustus, and Zeux, Arlo is a bundle of love and energy, eager to share his beachside adventures with a new family. This baby boy loves his adventures. He's pretty fearless at the beach until the waves start crashing, but he doesn't let it stop him from smelling all the shells and seaweed. He's a friendly little guy in public, although he can be a bit shy, but when encouraged, he easily meets people and other dogs. Arlo's been heading out on excursions while continuing to focus on keeping him parvo safe. He is currently working on leash manners to avoid tripping his people in that cute puppy way of wandering everywhere. His sit is terrific; he's working on down and a few other helpful focus things like touch, watch me, wait, and by me.
Having been raised in the nurturing environment of his foster home, Arlo has already mastered essential skills like potty training and crate training, making him a well-behaved pup from day one. Arlo sleeps through the night in his crate, and although he would prefer snuggles forever and putting his head right in your neck for love all day, Arlo understands that he's got to have nap time in his crate or pen to grow into a big boy.
Arlo has already learned to sit for treats, and his love of treats makes it easy to guide him toward desired behaviors. Arlo's playful spirit shines brightest during outings with his foster family, where he explores his environment with boundless curiosity and enthusiasm.
In addition to his human pals, Arlo has two resident buddies—one small dog and one lovely alumnus of our rescue—with whom he enjoys romping and learning. Arlo loves to play with the smaller resident dog, who is about his size and easily shares toys. He needs a little help when the resident shepherd overwhelms him with her antics, which his foster family guarantees for Arlo, whom they say could be the sweetest boy they've fostered.
Arlo rides like a pro in the car, settling in his car crate without a peep. A large portion of his kibble is used for enrichment, where he earns them to learn manners, and in enrichment activities like scattered in the grass or snuffle mat, empty paper towel rolls stuffed with kibble, and other treat-based toys, all of which he loves. Arlo also loves balls of assorted sizes; just about having a breakthrough on fetch - bringing it back. As you can see in the video, he's also super fond of plush toys.
We lean towards adopters who have experience raising shepherds or similar working breed puppies and are committed to structure, sound environmental exposures, and training throughout their puppy and adolescent years.
Arlo arrived from the shelter with his three littermates, Archie, Gus Gus, and Zeux. Due to space, they were on the euthanasia list five days after clearing their mandated hold period. We are so grateful to our community for saying yes to fostering to save their lives. The pups are well-adjusted, happy puppies that would have been adopted from shelters if not for the overwhelming number of litters ending up at rural and urban CA shelters.
Are you ready to add a dose of puppy joy to your life? Arlo is eagerly waiting to shower you with love, laughter, and plenty of beachside fun!
To adopt Arlo, simply fill out our online application, and our team will get in touch with you to discuss the next steps.
