Thaila (A134203) is an 5-year-old chinchilla who weighed 1.19lbs at intake!
04/13/24 These hansome bachelors are Nico and Thaila! These boys were brought to the shelter after their previous owner abandoned them with the pet sitter. From what we know, these boys have been together most of their lives, so we are requiring they remain together as a bonded pair. Nico was described as being more outgoing than Thaila, and to even tolerate handling. Both boys came in with greasy coats, so it does not appear that they have had access to a dust bath in a little bit. Please remember that dust baths are vital to chinchilla husbandry! Not only is it how they keep their coat healthy, but it is important for their mental healtqh as well! While Thaila was described as being more shy than his brother, he has been tolerant of the care staff handling him. Chinchillas in general do not like being held, and they should be given direct access to their dust bath after any handling to prevent the oils from human hands damaging their coat. Chinchillas also require an endless amount of hay daily, as it makes up the majority of their diet. They should also have a measured amount of pelleted food each daily. Unlike other small critters, chinchillas should not have fresh fruits and vegetables, as they are prone to diarrhea. They love to jump, and a multilevel enclosure with plenty of space to jump around and plenty of chew toys is ideal. If you are interested in adding a couple bachelors to your pad, please give the shelter a call!
