My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Joy: the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good; elation. Boy, if that doesn't describe me! I am Joy and I am elated to be living this life. I am a 5-year-old short, squat low rider, weighing about 55 pounds. I might be all muscle, but that's all the better for me to muscle my way into your heart and to force you to LOVE me. I was found wandering the streets and, when brought to the local shelter, I tested positive for heartworm. Thankfully I was picked to go to a rescue that day, as some of my other friends at the shelter weren't so lucky. I came so close to dying, and was absolutely elated to make it out alive.
Let me tell you a little bit about my heartworm treatment. I don't want it to scare you off; after all, without it, I wouldn't be here still. I am partway through treatment; I have back-to-back injections on May 5 & 6, and then another 30 days of low activity. After that I can start resuming a normal life. As for my heartworms, you can't catch them, and neither can the other pets in your home, so no need to worry about that!
Now, for the good stuff, all about me. I am destined to be friends with every human I meet. I don't understand or value your personal space, at all. For this reason alone, I may not be a great fit for small kids as they might not want to be smothered with my love. I am crate and potty trained, I'm obsessed with my red rubber ball, and I live to snuggle and get face rubbies. I'm not looking to be anyone's hiking partner; short walks for some sniffs then getting down to business, then back inside where the food and couch is work just fine for me. I guess I'm what you could call a couch potato. One area I might not shine in is my ability to be friends with kitties, so I need a cat free home, please. If all this sounds great to you, and you could be the almond to my joy, complete your application today!
All dogs available for adoption are in foster homes. Please do not visit the location as it is a privately run boarding, training, and grooming facility. Meet and greets are scheduled by appointment only for approved adopters.

Additional adoption info

Due to recent events, we use discretion when adopting to a home with children under the age of 5 and to an adult under 23. This does not mean you are automatically disqualified, but we may require additional information.

The adoption fee for all animals listed depends on the breed/species, age, vet care, cost to pull from the kill shelter, worming medicine, flea medicine, vaccinations, micro chip, etc. The adoption fee BARELY covers all of the previous mentioned expenses. Please do not ask for us to lower the fee.

All adopters must fill out an application. Please note: Once you submit an adoption application, it could possibly take up to 10 days to process. Thank you for your patience. Please email us for an adoption application at rescue@mbrohio.com or submit on our website http://www.mbrohio.com/adoption-application/

Go meet their pets

The dogs listed on this site are located at various foster homes throughout Ohio & some are located at a private boarding facility. Anyone wishing to visit one of our dogs or other animals must first complete an application and be an approved adopter before scheduling an appointment. Majority of scheduled appointments take place at a boarding facility in Grafton, Ohio

Please make a note that we do not transport our animals to you; you would need to come to Grafton Ohio to meet and possibly adopt.

More about this rescue

This site supports a small group of people who try to help as many animals that we can that have been displaced. All of the animals are checked by a vet, altered and updated on all vaccinations prior to going to a home.

We are all volunteers who do the best that we can with the limited funds and resources available to us. We give the potential adopter as much information as we can, including copies of all vet records but we normally do not know the history of the animals, as they are strays at the pound or taken by a humane officer from poor living conditions. Very rarely do we have owner releases. Most dogs in our program were minutes away from being put to sleep so the pound could make space for more strays.
