My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Prepare to be enchanted by HERCULES!!!

The gentle giant with a heart of gold! At 4 years young, this majestic mastiff is a walking cuddle machine just waiting to shower you with affection. Towering over the world with his impressive stature, HERCULES is a canine colossus who's as gentle as he is grand.

While he may not be a fan of felines, HERCULES is a social butterfly among his fellow canines, always ready for a romp in the park or a game of tug-of-war. When it comes to humans, HERCULES is a true people-pleaser, sitting patiently and offering his massive paw in exchange for a tasty treat and a sprinkle of praise. With his love for attention and his heart as big as his paws, HERCULES is sure to steal the show in any loving home. If you're ready to welcome a furry giant into your life, look no further than HERCULES!

HERCULES has been neutered, microchipped and heartworm tested negative. He is up to date on all vaccines and monthly preventions. If you're interested in adopting this sweet boy, feel free to stop by the shelter or give us a call at 740-314-5583.

More about this shelter

We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
