Melo was surrendered to the shelter on 5/7 with another dog when their owner was forced to relocate and unfortunately couldn't take the dogs with them. His owner described Melo as "Kind, loveable and well trained, he just wants to love and be loved on." Since being at the shelter Melo has shown us that he loves to give hugs and is a joy to spend time with. He would make a wonderful addition to a loving home!
Melo is currently eligible for rescue and adoption. Head to ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to meet him!
Behavioral:
Per volunteer on 5/19/24: Melo is a very sweet boy. Loves to give hugs. He was easy to leash out fine walking through the kennels and fine going back in. We walked outside didn't get far i wanted to see if he knew sit and he came up and gave me a hug. Walks good on the leash. Knows sit and paw. Very handler focused.
5/8/24 per staff: Melo walked well on leash and was interested in exploring his surroundings. He was aloof to me in the yard and preferred to sniff around and explore vs interact with me. However when walking over to him he would allow me to pet his full body without any issues and remained tolerant. He did well meeting another staff member as well and took treats gently when offered and showed knowledge of sit.
5/8/24 per staff: Has been noted to be reactive in kennel towards some people at random and will begin to hard bark

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) is the region’s largest animal care and control service provider. ACCT Philly is an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, contracted by the City of Philadelphia to provide animal control services.
