My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there — I’m Ginger. Let me tell you my story, because it’s an important one. I first came to the shelter when I was just a tiny kitten, only about a month old. Since then, I’ve been adopted twice and, through no fault of my own, I’ve found myself back here again. My first family loved me very much, but they became ill and could no longer care for me. My second home was wonderful too — I spent almost two years there — but when a new baby arrived, I had a hard time sharing attention. I like being someone’s cat, and the big changes were overwhelming for me. I’m a sweet, affectionate, and intelligent boy who knows exactly what I like — and I’m not shy about telling you. I love attention, just not lap-sitting kind of attention. I’d rather stand beside you, get constant pets, and lean my head forward for kisses. I’ll gently nudge you to let you know I want more love. When I’ve had enough, I’ll politely dodge your hand and walk away. Boundaries are important to me, and I communicate them clearly. I’m friendly, playful, vocal, and independent. Feather toys are my favourite, and I take my job as a hunter very seriously — any mouse or unwanted visitor in your home should be warned. I also love the outdoors and would be happiest if I could enjoy it safely, either with supervised outdoor time, a catio, or harness walks. I don’t love being picked up or cradled, and belly rubs or too much paw handling aren’t really my thing. If something makes me uncomfortable, I might gently grab your hand with my claws as a very clear “please stop” — not aggression, just honest communication. I’ve lived happily with other cats before — two female cats, actually — and we played, groomed each other, and got along well. I’ve never lived with a dog, so I’m not sure how I’d feel about that. Because of my sensitivity to big changes, I would do best in a home without young children, where I don’t have to compete for attention. What I’m really looking for is stability. A calm home, a person who understands cats, respects boundaries, and wants a companion who will love them deeply in his own way. I’ve had a lot of transitions in my life, and I’m hoping the next one is my last. If you’re looking for a charming, affectionate, slightly opinionated orange gentleman — I might just be your guy.
