Myrtle is such a sweet and funny girl. She loves going for adventure car rides and playing with rope toys. She is also OBSESSED with carrying around a swifter duster and even brings it outside to potty. You can see it in two of her photos!
Myrtle's Story:
Myrtle, an incredibly sweet dog, has been a victim of severe overbreeding and cruelty. Thankfully, Animal Care Services was able to step in and confiscate her from neglectful owners.
After seeing poor Myrtle frightened in her kennel and hearing all the trauma she has been through, we knew we had to help her. We always do whatever it takes to save pets who need us, and Myrtle is one of them.
To begin her recovery journey, Myrtle was spayed at the city shelter. However, due to years of neglect and overbreeding, she developed severe complications. She suffered from mastitis and Stump Pyometra, an infection of the remaining uterine tissue. This infection created a massive fluid pocket that adhered to her bladder, making the situation even more severe. Myrtle underwent emergency surgery to clear the infection, remove the remaining uterine tissue, and address all other issues. She is recovering amazingly in her foster home.

Our mission is to provide the programs and services needed to eliminate the killing of at-risk animals due to lack of space, adopter or foster.
San Antonio Pets Alive! is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Due to alarming euthanasia rates, San Antonio Pets Alive! (SAPA!) was founded in 2012. SAPA! is unique—it is the only high paced, high-volume rescue in San Antonio, saving 6,000 at-risk cats and dogs annually.
Since its inception, SAPA! has saved more than 47,000 dogs and cats. SAPA! provides safety nets for the dogs and cats that fall through the cracks of all other lifesaving options and end up on the euthanasia lists, often with just hours to be saved. SAPA! promotes the availability of these dogs and cats to other rescues, adopters and fosters.
