My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Elijah – The Big Orange Gentleman with a Garfield Attitude.

Elijah may have started this journey on the streets, but you’d never guess it now. This large, handsome orange boy has fully embraced the comforts of indoor life—soft beds, full food bowls, and humans who understand that his food preferences matter. Whether it’s canned or kibble, cat or dog food, freeze-dried or raw (just hold the mackerel, please), Elijah is an equal-opportunity eater.

From the moment he arrived at our home, he settled right in like he’d always belonged. At first, he was a bit unsure about the resident cats and dog (who, to be fair, ignores everyone), but it didn’t take long for Elijah to relax. These days, he coexists peacefully with everyone—mostly ignoring the dog and other cats, except for his favorite wrestling buddy who matches his size and enthusiasm. When those two get going, it’s full-contact feline fun!

Elijah enjoys toys but especially loves interactive play with his humans—his favorite being the fishing pole toy. When you’re home, expect him to be nearby, curiously observing what you’re doing, particularly in the kitchen. He can hear a treat hit the floor from three rooms away!

This charming orange guy adores being petted and talked to and will reward you with his big-hearted presence. He does, however, have a glorious thick coat that requires brushing (preferably during meals or treat time). He’s not a diva about it—just opinionated. His foster mom also gives him cat grass and freeze-dried greens to help with hairball control (needs it).

Elijah is on a bit of a diet plan—let’s call it a “fluff management program.” He eats separately so he doesn’t help himself to everyone else’s leftovers. If someone dares interrupt his meal, he’ll let out a little growl or a swat, but that’s as far as it goes.

He’s surprisingly easy to handle: he can be picked up, carried, have his ears cleaned (with commentary), and even get his nails trimmed while wrapped like a purrito. Growls, yes—but no fuss.

When it’s time to rest, Elijah is a champion napper. He loves cozy kitty beds or curling up at the foot of the human bed at night.

Despite being FIV+, Elijah is healthy, active, and full of life. FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) simply means his immune system needs a little extra care, but he can live a long, happy life and safely share a home with non-FIV cats.  Please check out the quick facts sheet.

Elijah is loving, funny, adaptable, and endlessly entertaining—a big-hearted orange cat with a Garfield-sized appetite and personality to match. He’s ready to find his forever home where he’ll continue being adored, indulged, and loved the way every cat should be.

Elijah's foster says that he has good teeth is maybe around 3 years old.  He has not been around young children.

Elijah is playing with his foster family!  Please submit our no-obligation Adoption Application for a meet and greet or to adopt:  https://forgottencats.org/adoption-application/.     Thank you!  (Foster:  Melanie C.)

More about this rescue

Founded in 2003, Forgotten Cats, Inc. is the leading trap, neuter, vaccinate, return (TNVR) nonprofit in the region. Servicing Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey, Forgotten Cats specializes in TNVR in order to humanely reduce the homeless cat population. Valuing all lives, Forgotten Cats is a no kill organization.

Forgotten Cats’ TNVR services involve working with colony caregivers to identify all cats within a colony, after which we trap, transport, sterilize, vaccinate, recuperate, and return feral cats to caregivers. Our goal is to stabilize each colony and ensure zero population growth. We achieve this by trapping and sterilizing every single cat in the entire colony.

About 20 percent of the cats that enter our clinics each year are not feral. Stray cats, or homeless domesticated cats, and feral kittens under 12 weeks old, are held and placed into our adoption network. With ten off-site adoption centers, our dedicated staff and volunteers work hard to prepare our cats for adoption and ensure they go to loving, forever homes.

Forgotten Cats serves the community by offering affordable TNVR services, low cost spay/neuter services for pet & stray cats, and spay/neuter education.

Forgotten Cats has over 700 volunteers that are committed to helping this organization fulfill its mission. We receive no government funding, and depend solely on private donations, grants, fundraising events, and bequests to complete our mission.

Since 2003, Forgotten Cats has sterilized over 200,000 cats across the region, which has prevented the birth and suffering of millions of kittens. Additionally, we have placed over 14,000 cats into loving, forever homes. At our no-kill clinic/shelters, we welcome the FIV+ & FeLV+ cats, the blind, the 3-legged, the lost, those that have been abused, and those that have been abandoned. We offer love and hope to the Forgotten Cats from all walks of life.

Vision:
We envision a day when kittens are no longer born on the streets but rather in loving homes to responsible owners.

Mission:
Our mission is to humanely reduce the homeless cat population and to stop the suffering of the thousands of kittens born to abandoned, homeless cats.

Not quite sure you are ready to be a full-time cat parent? Please consider our foster program! You can care for a cat/kitten for as little as two days, a couple of weeks, or longer. It's up to you. Please contact us! https://forgottencats.org/foster-a-cat/
