At just 5 years old, Tanner is bursting with goofy, playful energy, he’s like a teenager living in a retirement home, and it breaks our hearts to see his best years spent waiting in a kennel. He’s been with us far too long, and every one of our staff and volunteers who spend time with him regularly can tell you: this dog is special.
Tanner is full of personality. He loves fetch, tug-of-war, belly rubs, and being the star of every outing. He’s excellent in the car, happy to hike or jog, and always down for a treat after, especially a hamburger or a pup cup. He’s also been incredibly responsive in training, showing off his manners and eager-to-please attitude. He just wants someone to love and follow.
He recently spent two weeks in a home through our Frosted Fling program, and his foster had nothing but glowing things to say: house-trained, affectionate, fun, curious, and a great sleeper. Like many clever, active dogs, Tanner can get worked up by reflections (windows, appliances), but he settles quickly with reassurance. He really is a good boy just looking for guidance and a soft place to land.
Tanner does need to be the only dog in the home, which has made finding his match a bit harder, but he has more than enough love to give. He’s also eligible for our Molly & Me Project, a paid foster program for special dogs who just need one chance.
It’s hard watching Tanner grow older in a kennel when he should be someone’s sidekick, exploring the world and snuggling up on the couch at night. He’s ready. He’s always been ready.
Please come meet Tanner - you’ll fall for him just like we have.
