My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Alastair is a 1.6-year-old terrier weighing 47 pounds with a heart of gold, ready to show his true colors to the right family. Though he may take a little time to warm up, once he does, his affectionate nature will win you over.

Alastair would do best in a home without kids or cats, where he can form a strong bond with his humans and enjoy a calm, loving environment. His sweet and loyal personality will shine once he feels comfortable and secure.

If you’re looking for a gentle, independent dog who just needs a little patience to flourish, Alastair could be the perfect fit. Come meet him today and give him the chance to show you just how wonderful he can be!

You can view our available animals online or by visiting the shelter during regular business hours. Our knowledgeable and compassionate staff are here to guide you through the adoption process, which includes completing an application and having a conversation to ensure you’re fully informed and prepared to welcome a new pet into your home.

If you find an animal on our website that you’re interested in, we kindly ask that you visit the shelter to meet them in person before submitting your application. This helps ensure the best possible match for both you and the animal.

More about this shelter

The Gulf Coast Humane Society is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization dedicated to serving the animals and community of Southwest Florida. We receive no federal, state, or county funding, nor do we receive financial support from the Humane Society of the United States. Instead, our lifesaving work is made possible through the generosity of individual donations, grants, bequests, and community fundraising efforts.

As a no kill shelter, Gulf Coast Humane Society is committed to providing compassionate care for unwanted, neglected, and abandoned animals. We never euthanize due to space constraints or the length of time an animal has been in our care. Our mission is to give every animal the second chance they deserve in a safe and loving environment.
