My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Candyland 🍬

Candyland has been thriving in foster care since February 2025, and in that time she has truly blossomed into an incredibly sweet, gentle, and joyful companion.
Candy is a certified foodie who lives for chicken, peanut butter, ice cream, and Himalayan chews — but fair warning: bananas are absolutely not her thing. Her personality is just as expressive as her taste buds. She’s affectionate, playful, and patient, with a calm presence that makes her a joy to be around.

Adventures & Outings
Candy loves car rides — open a door and she’s hopping in, ready for the next adventure. She’s gone on long drives just for fun and even enjoyed a day trip to the Ocean City, NJ beaches. While she loved the sights and sounds, Candy made it very clear that sand on her coat (and especially her nose) is not her favorite, and the ocean was far colder than her cozy bath water at home. Upcoming adventures include Ridley Creek State Park, Valley Forge Park, and the Schuylkill River Trail.
She’s also been exploring new environments with help from friends and their dogs, enjoying city walks, hiking trails, and a recent outing on the Wissahickon Trail.

At Home
Candy is an absolute sweetheart indoors. She has only barked a handful of times in several months and has been fully house-trained since her second day in foster. She reliably lets her people know when she needs to go out and enjoys 3–6 walks per day of varying lengths.
She is crate trained, does not have accidents in the crate, and settles well. Candy is respectful of her space, playful when it’s time to have fun, and incredibly loving the rest of the time.

People & Kids
Candy is gentle, kind, and affectionate with everyone she meets. She is especially impressive with children and is learning how to appropriately greet toddlers with patience and softness, adjusting her energy beautifully. She takes treats gently, shows no food aggression, and maintains her charm well beyond first impressions.
Ideal Home
Candyland would do best in:
• A home where she is the only dog
• A household with kids over 5 years old
• People who enjoy walks, adventures, and staying active
• Someone who wants a loving, affectionate dog
• A family who doesn’t mind a bed-sharing cuddle buddy

Candyland is truly one of those dogs whose sweetness is hard to measure. She’s loving, fun, gentle, and deeply connected to her people. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who’s always ready for an adventure — and even more ready to snuggle — Candyland may be your perfect match. 💛

Behavior notes:
02/03/2025 Day Trip note: Candyland appeared nervous and shy at introduction, but was not aggressive. Candy land was a sweet gentle girl the entire visit.

Candyland pulled slightly when we first walked out of the building and an few times on the walk when there was random food trash on the street. The rest of the walk she was a pleasure to walk with, staying close to me. We maintained a slow, leisurely pace; allowing Candyland to sniff and explore the area. We walked down to the corner of West Hunting Park Ave and Rising Sun Ave. She walked without issue back to the Parking lot of the ACCT facility. I opened my rear passenger car door and offered Candyland the opportunity to get in and go for a car ride. She sat next to my car calmly, but stared at the ACCT facility. We sat patiently next to my car for sometime, with occasional efforts to persuade her into the car; but I decided to let Candyland to lead me back into the facility.

02/02/2025 volunteer notes: Candyland was a very lovely girl. She was very affectionate and loved getting attention and petting. She was not reactive towards other dogs and was good on the leash. She appreciated getting treats.

01/30/2025 staff notes:
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Candyland was wiggly in kennel. When the handler called to her she came to the door and licked her through the cracks. She had soft eyes and was very easy to leash, especially given her cone and was patient!

LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls moderately

HANDLING :
Candyland was sweet in the room and had a loose body, soft eyes, and nub wags when greeting us. She would approach both of us for pets often, exploring the room in between before coming back to us for more attention. She was tolerant of full body pets without any problems, although at first was a bit unsure of handling on her hind. She could be a bit snatchy with treats when first excited, but as time went on she was more gentle.

Medical:
On 1/31 staff noted: “Full thickness wound at base of right pinna, lateral aspect. Bilateral mildly foul smelling black debris AU. Calculus 2/5 overall. MS / Int - underweight, bones are prominent. Minor surface abrasion with a flap of skin (1cm) hanging from the edge of the lateral left aural pinna. On the caudal aspect of the lateral base of the right ear, there is a full thickness 2cm long and 1.5cm wide wound exposing underlying granulation tissue and cartilage. There is pus and dried blood covering the wound. There is significant inflammation associated with the wound. When cleaned, the granulation tissue is not bleeding much, even when scrubbed vigorously. Probably would do better with surgical fixation.”

On 1/29 staff noted: Friendly. Full thickness wound at base of right pinna, lateral aspect. Gums are pink and moist, Bruising on the gums line by the top right K9.
