Mercedes is a gentle and affectionate senior who came to the shelter after being brought to the police precinct. She has a calm, social demeanor and immediately shows her love for people. In her kennel, she greets visitors with soft eyes, a gentle head tilt, and takes treats delicately. She’s happy to lean into pets and enjoys being near people, even hopping up on a bench to snuggle close while watching the world go by.
Leashing Mercedes is easy, though she may pull a little when excited or curious, especially when outside exploring new sights and smells. She’s attentive and alert, taking in her surroundings with mild vigilance but quickly settling into walks and enjoying gentle guidance.
Mercedes is friendly with other dogs as well. She’s been observed meeting a dog through a fence with a relaxed tail and soft eyes, and when greeting on leash, she uses calm body language and sniffing to help ease interactions. She enjoys companionship and has a sweet, easygoing personality that makes her a wonderful friend for people and pets alike.
This loving senior is social, affectionate, and ready to find a home where she can enjoy gentle walks, cozy snuggles, and the comfort of a family who appreciates her calm and friendly nature. Mercedes proves that seniors have just as much love and joy to give as any pup—and she’s ready to share it all.

Maisie and Mercedes Meet: https://youtu.be/qxM83s-MiiA
Behavior Notes:
Per Volunteer 11/26/25: Meet Mercedes, the sweetest gentle girl with a whole lot of love left to give. 💛 Even though she’s estimated to be around 7 years old, she has the heart of a younger gal — truly so much pep in her step! She was incredibly easy to leash and walk, and her friendly, soft disposition made me fall for her instantly.
She takes treats like an absolute lady, and I swear she had a genuine little smile on her face the entire time we were together. 🥹✨
Mercedes would thrive in any home — she’s just that easy, sweet, and lovable. Anyone would be so lucky to make this girl part of their family. 🐾💕
Per staff 11/13/25:
Kennel Presentation: Laying on bed when I approached kennel. Ears forward, eyes soft and closed mouth. When she came up to the kennel door, her tail was mid to low wagging and took a treat gently through the bars. She also did a give head tilt when i was baby talking to her.
Leash Skills: Easy to leash. Walking through kennels she was mildly pulling, hyper vigilant ( Looking side to side as we walking through the kennels) Ears back and tail down. Did a shake off when we got past all the rows. Slightly pulled harder outside, towards the fence line. She seemed to be exit searching.
Sociability: Pretty social. In the x pen she was standing at the fence line staring at the street. I called her over, she came over and leaned into my legs allowed all handling. She even got up on the bench with me and leaned into me. We Just saw there watching the cars go by. When i stood up she did become bouncy and attempted to jump up on me.
Play: n/a
Dog Interaction: Met Hyde. She went up to the fence line to greet him with mid tail wagging, ears to the side or back and soft eyes. Hyde was pretty barky and Mercedes did a lip curl at one point. Met on leash, Hyde came on strong and Mercededs would turn and start sniffing in attempts to calm him down. They were able to walk near eachother and sniff together.
Return to Kennel: Easy to return and unleash.
Per staff 11/11/25: Dog is very social and solicits attention.
