My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

He’s got a look that will make you melt!

Hi there! My name is Dante, and I’m an 8-year-old neutered male Malinois mix weighing 52 pounds. I was one of the lucky pups rescued by ELSR, and I’m so grateful for this second chance at life! Even though I’m blind and working through some anxiety, I’m determined to live life to the fullest. I have a few med needs: Eating Hills Prescription Diet Gastrointestinal Biome Digestive/Fiber Care 27.5lb Bag (~$132.00 based on market value and where purchased). Taking Carprofen (~$20.00 for a months supply. Price depends on market value and where purchased) to help manage pain and taking Dasuquin joint supplement (~$42.00 for 3 months supply, price varies on market value and where purchased) to help joint pain.

I’m a sweet and laid-back boy who loves structure and boundaries to help me thrive. I can be playful and active when you’re up for it, but I’m also happy to quietly entertain myself with toys when you need some downtime. My favorite things? Squeaky toys, chewy treats, and a good jaw rub—those are the best! I adore people (especially men!) and enjoy having visitors over.

When it comes to training, I’ve got a solid start. I’m crate-trained and do well on a leash. Potty training is also going well, but I do need frequent trips outside as I cant hold it for very long. But hey, I’m incredibly smart and love to learn, so I know I’ll get there! I’m even picking up commands like “in,” “out,” “down,” “right,” and “left,” and I respond well to my name and positive reinforcement.

I think I’d do best in a calm, structured home. I’d be okay with laid-back doggy siblings, and kiddos too. UI am not sure about cats but I dont have a prey drive. I’m independent enough to hang out on my own for parts of the day, but I’d much prefer having you around.

Do we sound like a match? If so, my adoption fee is $150 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/.

Dante's ride to freedom has been graciously sponsored by Mimi Pullen.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
