My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Hilda! This sweet 8-year-old Staffie mix has quite the story to tell, but her past doesn't define her. Hilda's journey started in Tulsa, OK, where she was sadly abandoned after life as a breeder momma. She bravely battled severe mange on the streets before finding refuge at a shelter. After a year of dedicated care in rescue, she's made her way to Minnesota and is ready for her forever home!
Hilda is a delightful blend of silly, playful, and chill. She's wonderfully calm and gentle with people, but her playful side shines through when she's around other dogs. While she enjoys canine company, she would also be perfectly content as the queen supreme of her own castle, soaking up all the love and attention. She would also do well in a home with dog-savvy children.
This spry senior is already potty trained and kennel trained, and she loves car rides! While she's not a huge fan of long walks, she's happy to join you for shorter strolls. She navigates stairs with ease and is surprisingly agile for her age.
Hilda can be a little hesitant with new people at first, but with a little patience and space, she warms up quickly and blossoms into an affectionate companion who loves being near her people.
Hilda's journey hasn't been without its bumps. She has allergies and is currently managing them well with medication. She's also undergoing allergy testing to pinpoint the specific triggers so her care can be further tailored. Her ideal home will be committed to providing her with a good diet and the simple, ongoing care she needs to thrive.
If you're looking for a loving and loyal companion, whether as a cherished only dog or a member of a multi-dog household, Hilda might just be the perfect addition to your family!
Hilda's adoption fee is $300 plus MN tax which covers her spay, vaccinations, microchip and any additional medical care she may have needed while in the rescue’s care.
We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website www.northernlakesrescue.org

Go meet their pets

Northern Lakes Rescue is foster based so all dogs are being fostered by amazing volunteers across the state of MN. Because of this, we require all meet and greets to be scheduled after an application is submitted.

Our focus after you apply is to get you scheduled to meet the dog within 3 to 7 days.

More about this rescue

Our Vision is to be a voice for those who are voiceless. We hear them with our hearts and give them a voice. Looking into the eyes of a rescued animal will speak volumes; watching those eyes light up will have an everlasting impact on you and the rescued animals.

We aren’t a typical rescue as we don’t take in dogs and put them in kennels until they’re adopted. All dogs we rescue are placed in loving foster homes that teach them to be the best dog they can be.

Our journey doesn’t end with adoption, either. We are here for you to support you in integrating your new member into your home, cheer new triumphs, and help with struggles.
