My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rosie is a 4 yr old, Yorkie-Maltese mix who weighs around 10 lbs.  Rosie has a calm spirit and a unique personality.

If you ever thought to yourself, I would love to have a dog who acts like a cat, Rosie is your girl! She is content to lie near you on the couch; however, she is not a lap dog. She will lie at the foot of the bed, on the second pillow, or peacefully in her crate at night. Her favorite toy is a Nylabone and the occasional piece of crushed ice. She is proudly not a high-maintenance pup.

Rosie came from a hoarding situation with over 29 dogs in the home, hence her unique personality. Rosie really watches and learns from the dogs in her foster home.  Her adoptive home should preferably have another small social dog, no larger than 15 pounds. Rosie has good energy with other dogs and oftentimes gets in the dog beds or an open crate with them. She looks to the other dogs to see how they react when experiencing something new.

Rosie will be cautious around new people, especially men, so it will take time for her to warm up. We are asking for an all-female home for Rosie. During her time with us, she has shown that she only responds to women… she will not go out the door with a man to go potty. Let’s get real, that would make it super hard for your male family member or friend to help you if you, the female, are not home. She's not an attention seeker, but she will definitely capture your heart. She has a peaceful presence. Whoever adopts Rosie needs to want to give this precious girl a forever home, knowing she comes with “breeder pup” issues. Rosie has come so far, but it has taken time.

Rosie is crate trained and doing very well with house training and leash walking; in fact, she looks forward to her daily walks.  We require a securely fenced yard for Rosie so she can have the opportunity to be safely supervised in her own yard, plus a fenced yard helps with housetraining, and most importantly, it is an added layer of safety, because Rosie is quick! The first few months in her foster home, Rosie tended to run away when scared instead of going to her foster mom. That’s the breeder pup in her.

Rosie requires weekly combing even though she doesn't mat easily. Her hair does grow fast, so her adopter needs to be up for frequent grooming.

The adoption range for this dog is limited to NC, SC, VA and East TN. If you are interested in adopting this dog, contact h2hadoptions@gmail.com. There is an application process and adoption fee.

WE REQUIRE AN ALL-ADULT HOME WITH A SECURELY FENCED YARD.  This allows Rosie the opportunity to play safely supervised in her own yard, helps with housetraining, and most importantly, it is an added layer of safety because Rosie is quick!

The secure fence must be at least 4 feet with gaps no larger than 1 1/2 inches and attached to the home.  An invisible fence, enclosed patio or terrace without grass, temporary fencing, dog pens or dog lots or community shared fencing (dog park) are NOT considered secure fencing. If your fencing has "puppy pickets" (or is supplemented with garden fencing), it needs to be at least 36 inches high from the ground up AT THE LOWEST POINT. No exceptions.

We are an all-volunteer organization, and in addition to saving dogs, we have other responsibilities, so we appreciate your patience and understanding during this process. Response time can take up to 5 business days.

Please inquire only if you are willing to come to Greensboro, NC to meet the dog after we schedule your home visit. We do not ship dogs or put them on transports.

Veterinary Care: All Hart-2-Heart Rescue foster dogs are spayed/neutered, current on heartworm prevention, parvo/distemper, bordetella, and rabies vaccines, and are professionally groomed. As needed, our foster dogs have teeth cleanings, extractions, bloodwork and other diagnostic testing.

Adoption Fee: $500

More about this rescue

Hart-2-Heart Rescue is a non-profit organization formed to rescue small mixed-breed and purebred dogs who would otherwise fall between the cracks. Our focus is to provide a happy future for our foster dogs, to guarantee the care and support needed to ensure their full health of both mind and body. Everything we do is driven by the passionate belief that we can improve life for the dogs in our care regardless of their background, whether they are strays, abandoned, from puppy mills or shelters, or victims of unavoidable life circumstances.

Hart-2-Heart Rescue was established by co-founders Jennifer Hart and Judy Allen, long-time friends whose paths converged in the 1990’s. With complimentary skill sets and years of pet ownership, breed knowledge, training and behavioral expertise, and rescue experience, they joined forces to develop the model of home-fostered dogs. Hart-2-Heart Rescue was born of a dream and a sense of social responsibility to ensure that the foster dogs in our care are provided with necessary medical, social and life skills that will enable them to develop to their full potential.

Joined by a group of dedicated volunteers, Hart-2-Heart’s goal is to successfully match each dog with the right family as well as to match each family with the right dog. Our volunteers give freely of their time, resources and love to provide an in-home experience for each of our foster dogs. Our rescues live as an integrated member of our families in our homes, where they’re taught the skills and joys of daily living. We ensure that adoptions are for life by determining a suitable match and by providing on-going support to adoptive families.

Hart-2-Heart Rescue is an all-volunteer charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Greensboro, North Carolina. We do not have a physical shelter because our adoptable dogs live in foster homes. Our dream is to help dogs find the right home and bring joy to the people who adopt them; our expertise is in doing so.
