Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Harley!
Harley is 9yrs 3months old (Oct) and 55lbs. She is spayed, current on vaccines, microchipped, crate trained & house trained. Harley is heartworm positive, but is on slow kill treatment and has already had one round of doxy. Harley is searching for her retirement home. She was picked up by animal control after being found abandoned. When she came to APAWS, she was having some joint pain and after doing x-rays, our vet thinks that she was hit by a car at some point in her life. We found pellets on her x-rays that showed she’s also been shot before. All that to say- Harley has had a rough life. Her foster parents have been absolutely amazing and she has come a long way. It’s time for her to find her furever. Actually, it’s long overdue. Harley is good with other calm dogs and ignores cats. She loves to get as close to you as she can. She enjoys playing with toys, chilling on the couch or her dog bed. She deserves to be loved and spoiled and shes waited a long time and fought through so much for the chance to have that. We really hope someone can give her that chance. Harley’s adoption fee has been significantly reduced in hopes that it will help her find her furever. Video of Harley will be in the comments. Please consider opening your heart & home to Harley.

More about this rescue
What is APAWS?
A.P.A.W.S (Animal Protection and Welfare Society) is a volunteer, foster-based, no-kill, 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue organization based out of Baton Rouge, LA.
What does this mean? APAWS has no paid board members or staff. We do not have a brick and mortar location. We are supported by generous and loving volunteers who agree to shelter and care for the animals as a temporary placement until the animals find their forever homes.
Our Misson
Since 2004, APAWS has been dedicated to ensuring that all pet animals in and around the Baton Rouge area live in homes that provide for all of the animal’s physical and emotional needs (including love, compassion, daily care and medical care) for the animal’s lifetime. We do understand that things may not always go as planned. APAWS will always provide a safety net for the pets that we adopt out- should something ever happen and they need our assistance again. All animals in our care will be spayed / neutered and up to date on age appropriate vaccinations before adoptions are finalized.
Our Vison
Our main goal has always been to break the stigma around rescue animals and reduce the number of animals that are euthanized in local shelters by proving that you can rescue wonderful dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments. Through our work with both animals and humans, APAWS strives to make Southeast Louisiana a more inclusive environment where everyone can experience the transformative benefits of responsible, humane pet ownership.
