My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update from Molly`s foster :

Molly has been with us since September 2025 and she is a wonderful dog. Here are my notes about her, in no particular order.

* she is perfectly house trained and knows how to use the doggy door. Ii sometimes work long hours outside the home and she has shown no anxiety or had any accidents inside, or been destructive in any way. She does have my two dogs to keep her company so she hasn`t ever been left completely alone.

* she gets along with other polite dogs, male and female. Though she has energy outdoors and a rough and rowdy playstyle, she has always been gentle with my elderly female dog, never forcing her to engage or knocking her down. My male dog is 5 but very low energy, and she doesn`t force him into playing either. He sometimes gets in her face, trying to body block her when she gets the zoomies and moves fast, and she simply evades him. So very patient with other dogs.

* she takes treats gently and among other dogs with no problems. She does resource guard her food bowl at meal times so it feed her separately. She respects the baby gate and doesn`t whine or bark when waiting to be released.

* she can also guard her favorite dog bed, but gives fair warning to the dog trying to share it and we`ve never had a problem.

* she loves walks and doesn`t pull on the leash. She is non reactive to other dogs and people when on leash.

* she can be turned loose in safe areas and will always come when called.

* indoors she is mellow and polite. Will not climb on furniture unless invited. Loves to curl up on the couch next to you. Loves to be petted and is very affectionate and trusting. Loves to give kisses but will stop trying to lick you if corrected. Doesn`t jump up on you. Wants to be where you are but isn`t annoyingly velcro, she will settle down on a dog bed and chill.

* she is good and patient for her bath, will yield up toys or found objects without problems.

* I am told by the shelter she is very difficult for nail trims. I haven`t yet had occasion to test this.

* loves toys and plays very well independently. Will tear plushies but doesn`t eat the stuffing. Will chew any rubber or squeaky ball to bits so must be supervised with those. Best are strong nylon toys and chew bones, she enjoys both.

* not yet cat tested. She will chase a squirrel now and then, but loses interest quickly. She will chase the horse along the fence li

More about this shelter

Marion County Animal Services is the largest animal shelter in our county. Operating as a no-kill shelter, our kennels are almost always full. We provide adoption, fostering opportunities, work with rescues, accept volunteers and provide the training for veterinary assisting students. In addition, we run the Neuter Commuter and provide all animal control services in Marion County.
Due to the sheer volume of animals in our care, we need lots of help from our community in our effort to adopt out more and save more!
We don't only accept the ideal animals into our shelter. We can offer you quite the array of animal breeds and personalites! Keep an open mind when visiting our shelter- you may find that your perfect match is not at all what you set out to find.
We're here to help you as well as our homeless and lovable animals.
