My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

2006 16.1HH Dark Bay Thoroughbred Gelding

"Valor" is a lovable and affectionate gelding with a heart as big as his personality. He came to us in January 2025 through an animal control case. Upon arrival, Valor underwent surgery to remove a dermal sarcoma from his nose, and we’re happy to share that he’s made a full recovery!

Despite his past neglect, this retired racehorse—once known on the track as Sleepless Knight—has nothing but love to give and is ready for a fresh start. Valor is the definition of an “in your pocket” gelding who thrives on attention and connection. He is fun to work with on the ground, enjoys lunging, and shows curiosity and enthusiasm when introduced to obstacles.

Valor is currently on 8 pounds of McCauley’s Alam daily, along with a joint supplement and 1 Equioxx tablet. He is very sensitive to sugar and does best during the warmer months with a structured turnout schedule: off grass for 16 hours each day and wearing a grazing muzzle for the remaining time. Due to limited access to grass in the past, he is prone to laminitis. Valor also has a narrowing joint space in his left hock and receives annual injections to help keep him pasture sound. He is doing very well with this management plan.

Valor was castrated at age 19 upon his arrival, so he needs to be in a gelding-only field and ideally not turned out directly beside mares. He gets along well with his gelding companions and enjoys their company.

Adoption Process

Once a complete application is received, KYEAC will begin the screening process. This usually takes about 5-7 days, depending upon how easy it is to make contact with your references.

KYEAC will notify you when your application has been approved, and you may then make an appointment with KYEAC to visit the equine(s) you are interested in adopting.

Adopters are responsible for transportation arrangements and costs at the time of the adoption and in the event of return.

Adoption fees are non-refundable.

Please also note that Adopter agrees that the adopted equine may not be raced, bred, sold, given away or assigned by the Adopter, except as otherwise provided in the adoption contract.

Further, we require adopters to complete an inspection on the adopted equine at 6 and 12 months after the date of the adoption. Provided the photos and veterinary report from these two inspections are satisfactory, KYEAC will then transfer full ownership of the equine to the Adopter at 12 months via a transfer letter.
