Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Clyde
Handsome Clyde (was Raindrop) is a labrador mix. We pulled Clyde off the euthanasia list from a high kill shelter. We gave him a new name to go with his new lease on life. Clyde is a black labrador mix, possibly mixed with boxer. He is less than two old, but it seems as if his first years on earth have been terribly difficult. Clyde was just a forgotten puppy, neglected, maybe abused, and tossed out early on with no one to love him. Sadly, Clyde found himself on his last call on the kill list. His defeated expression really got to us and we had to give him a chance. He deserved better than life offered so far. He deserved a chance to live.
Since arriving, we’ve seen his personality come out more every day. Clyde is an energetic and athletic young pup. He is very smart and curious. He will do well in an active home, with a fenced yard, and a family that likes to do things with Clyde in tow. Like all labradors he is a bouncy, energetic boy. He is a strong walker when he’s interested in something and his puppy energy pulls him on. A gentle leader might help as well as some gentle training. Clyde is very smart and will learn quickly. Clyde may be best in a home without younger kids, older kids may be fine, but we have seen Clyde be a little protective of his space and toys. Completely understandable when you go from having nothing, to having a safe place to sleep and some toys to call your own for the first time. Building Clyde’s confidence through training, consistency, love and protective safety will go far to helping Clyde settle in. He longs for a deep bond with a special someone or family. He loves being outside in the fresh air where he doesn’t feel confined and the noises of the shelter lesson. He enjoys watching the world go by. He shows no reaction to other dogs.
Clyde has so much potential. He’s young and impressionable. For a person or family willing to invest time in Clyde, he has the potential to be the dog of a lifetime. He is longing to show someone just how great he is, but we can also see he is a little scared to do so. Life has not been kind to him. If you are that special someone/family looking to give a wonderful young dog a second chance, Clyde deserves all the TLC you can offer.
If interested in welcoming Clyde to your heart and home, please submit an application online at: www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. On our home page, please select "How to Adopt" to pull up our online application.
Please email our shelter (smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net) or call our shelter at 706-865-4135 and leave a message to make sure we received your application. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals.
Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually operates at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.

Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually operates at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
Our adoption process begins with the submission of an application which is used to gather information and initiate conversation with the adopting person/family. The form also assists us with assessing the environment for suitability and safety in the placement of our residents. The application is the first step in the approval process, followed by veterinarian reference check, landlord approval confirmation if relevant and a home visit which may be done physically or virtually depending on the distance from the shelter. The approval process can be initiated either before or after a visit to the shelter to visit our residents. The application for dogs is located on our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/smithgallhumanesociety/photos/a.984873858223547.1073741865.548822128495391/1271213192922944/?type=3&theater . For cat application, go to: https://www.facebook.com/smithgallhumanesociety/photos/a.984873858223547.1073741865.548822128495391/1271223856255211/?type=3&theater . The forms will be automated for online submission through a new website currently under construction with an anticipated launch date of no later than Nov 2016. Requirements for adoption are specific to the needs of the animal in addition to standard checks for safety issues. Adopters must come to the shelter once approved to take their adopted pet home. We do not ship nor do we transport. Submitting the form is neither a guarantee of adoption nor an entitlement to "first come, first served" in the selection process of safely and appropriately placing our residents. Decision to approve/not approve an adopter(s) is based on the needs of the dog, not the needs of the adopter. The application should be downloaded before printing. The completed form can be returned through Facebook Messages, emailing to: smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net or delivery to the shelter. The process usually takes 1 to 3 business days but can be slowed by not completing all of the questions, difficulty in reaching people relevant to approval and scheduling a home visit. Our residents must be returned to us at any point in time if the adoption is no longer suitable/safe for the pet or circumstances have changed to where a new home is needed. A contract must be signed to complete the adoption process. Standard fees for dogs are $100 and for cats $85. Some fees are subsidized in various amounts as low as $25 (minimum allowed subsidized fee) for dogs and $20 (minimum allowed subsidized fee) for cats . All of our animals are spay/neutered, have age appropriate vaccines and are free of internal parasites. Dogs are tested for heart worms and put on monthly prevention. Cats are tested for FIV/FeLV.
