Coconut Patty came to the shelter in need of some TLC, and this lovely 5-year-old lady has been blossoming ever since. She currently weighs 38lbs and is slowly gaining weight as she works her way toward a healthy size. Coconut Patty is a sweet, gentle girl who loves to snuggle. She enjoys chewing on toys and happily carries her tennis ball along on walks.
Coconut Patty has been spending time in a foster home, where she has truly shown what an incredible house guest she is. Indoors, she is a gentle sweetheart who is house-trained and very affectionate. She loves being close to her people and will happily soak up pets, giving you a clear look of disappointment if you stop too soon. She did well on the car ride from BARCS and settled into her foster home with ease. While Coconut Patty may need a little time to settle into a brand-new environment, once she does, her confident and loving personality shines. She even visited her foster’s sister’s home and made herself comfortable right away without any shyness.
Coconut Patty has been left alone in the basement for two to three hours and did just fine, with no barking or whining. She loves shredding toys but does not eat the stuffing. Mealtime manners are impressive—she sits and waits patiently while her food is prepared and does not beg. On walks, she has been gentle and sweet with children and even tried to pull up some steps to say hello to a baby she spotted along the way. She walks nicely on leash, shows no leash or barrier reactivity, and is not reactive to other dogs while out and about. She does well meeting new people and is a joy to have around. If you are looking for a calm, affectionate, well-mannered dog who loves cuddling, gentle walks, and being near her people, Coconut Patty is ready to keep thriving in a loving forever home.
Coconut Patty has met other dog pals at BARCS, she does best with gentle dog pals.
Coconut Patty is in the comfort of a foster home, please email dogfosters@barcs.org to be connected with her foster family.

BARCS takes in new animals in need of a loving home every day. The pictures above only represent a portion of the animals that are available for adoption at any given time. Some animals get adopted immediately and their photos never make it onto our website—which is wonderful! If you don’t see what you are looking for, please visit our shelter to meet your perfect match today! Adoption fees are $75; however, we offer several adoption packages listed here. Our adoption hours are Monday-Friday from 2-6 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Step 4: When you have selected the right animal for you, our Adoptions Team will run your Adoption Application for approval. Once your application is approved, you will participate in an adoption class where you will learn all of the details about your new adopted family member, including their known history and medical records.

More about this shelter
BARCS is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization operating Maryland’s largest animal shelter and pet adoption center. A staggering 30 or more animals are surrendered to BARCS every day. No matter what the circumstance, we do not turn away any animal in need of shelter, food, medical care and a loving touch.
