My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**PLEASE BE SURE YOU ARE READY TO ADOPT WHEN REQUESTING AN APPLICATION**
6-4-25 UPDATE: "Well, I have been in my Foster home for 2 months now, and not one person has inquired about me. Why? I am the perfect boy, as you will read below, and I am smaller than my pictures make me look! Please don't let my age hold you back! I have lots of life and love to give you! Won't YOU ask to meet me? Please?" Mom calls me "Super Duper Trooper!" Come meet me and find out why!!"

4-12-25 UPDATE: "While I miss my owner terribly, I am doing so good in my Foster home! I am doing great with the other dogs, and I feel so secure and safe in my crate. I do go to the door to let Mom know I need to go out and scratch at the door to come in. Mom has a dog door, but I haven't learned to use it just yet. I do love to lay on the couch with you! I do get really excited when I hear the word "eat", and I know how to "sit" on command. Mom says I am just the greatest boy, and anyone would be happy to have me in their lives!!"
4-2-25: "Hi everyone, my name is TROOPER, and my story is a sad one, but with you, I will have a happy ending! You see, I am an 8-year-old Pug Chihuahua mix, about 27 pounds (need to lose a few pounds!), fully vetted, chipped and HW negative. My owner adopted me as a young puppy and had me all this time. Oh the life we had together, it was wonderful, but sadly, things went awry, and I tried and tried to get him to wake up, to no avail. His family had the Police and Animal Control come to do a wellness check, but it was too late--my beloved owner had passed, and I laid on him, protecting him for several days. I didn't realize they all were there to help me, so I wasn't too overly friendly at the time. Well, they took me to the shelter, but was kind of Mr. Bossy Pants with others who tried to show me love. I was corrected each time I did that, and I am learning that that is not the correct behavior for a cute guy like me! I will need an owner who will keep me in line, and who will show me who is the "Boss" in the family. I do respond to correction well and have been behaving great in my foster home! I do my business outside, and am crate trained, as well as walking great on the leash! I don't know how I am with cats or children but am good with the other dogs in my foster home. I do need an owner who will understand me, knowing I need that firm guidance, and then how happy we both will be!! Do I sound like a guy you'd like to have in your life? Just email my Foster Mom at citizens4animals@yahoo.com and we can make it all happen!!"
"Thank you for taking the time to learn all about me! I look forward to meeting you!!"
Love,
TROOPER

Additional adoption info

We ask all potential adopters to fill out an application for adoption which is sent to them as soon as an inquiry is received. The application is reviewed, and the applicant's vet reference is checked by phone. If the applicant does not have a good vet record, the application is denied. If the applicant is renting a home, we ask for his landlord's name and phone # and check to make certain the applicant is allowed to have a pet. If there are any concerns regarding the application, we bring them to the applicant's attention and ask for clarification. This is done before the applicant meets the pet. We then set up a meeting at a mutually convenient time and place. If the applicant wants the pet, we ask for a check made payable to CFAW at the time the applicant takes the pet. The adoption donation is held for 3-5 days during which the potential adopter can decide whether (or not) he wants to permanently adopt the pet. If he decides not to adopt and returns the pet to us, his check is returned at that time. There is also a Pet Adoption Contract which basically states that the adopter will take good care of the pet. This is signed by both parties.
