My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Your perfect companion!

Hi there! I’m Betty, a six-year-old, 53-pound Terrier mix with a gentle heart and a love for the little joys in life. I made my way here all the way from the dreaded Ellos Son La Razon in Mexico, where I had quite the traumatic past. Thankfully, though, TAP stepped in to give me a second chance, and now I’m ready to find my forever family.

I’ve already been spayed and, just so you know, I’m missing a few teeth — so I do best with a mix of wet and dry food. I may be a little timid at first, but if you’re patient and kind with me, I’ll warm up and show you my sweet, loving side. Once I trust you, I’m all about belly rubs, couch cuddles, tug o’ war, chew toys, and sniffing around outside on our daily walks.

I’m completely potty trained, and I walk nicely on a leash (though I’ll admit I can’t resist chasing after a squirrel or lizard if I see one!) I get anxious in crates, but luckily I don’t need one. I’m not destructive and do just fine with an x-pen or baby gate. If I have another calm dog around when you’re gone, I’m perfectly content and don’t get anxious being left alone. I bark occasionally, but I’m easy to redirect.

I’d love to have a mellow doggie sibling to keep me company, and a family who enjoys adventures but also appreciates quiet time at home. I’d do best in a cat-free home, and I’d likely be fine with older kids who understand I need a little time to feel safe.

If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who just needs a little time and understanding to blossom, I might just be your girl. My adoption fee is $250 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
