My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

She aims to please!

Nice to meet you!  My name is I’m Osa, and I’m a 5-year-old, 52-pound, spayed Shepherd mix female.

I am fully house-trained (with the exception of a few accidents upon moving into my foster mama’s place), and I walk perfectly on a leash with almost no pulling.  I’m easily trainable (I’ve almost fully mastered “sit” and “wait”), too, and I respond well to verbal corrections.   As far as my health goes, I am a proud TVT survivor and recently had surgery to repair my prolapsed vagina. I take two pills a day of Gabapentin (monthly cost is approximately $10.00, depending on market value) and wear a cone so that I don’t lick my surgery wounds.  To help manage frequent urinary tract problems, I am eating Hills Prescription Diet Urinary Care C/D (~$103 for largest bag) along with taking Cranberry Plus D-Mannose supplement (~$15.00 for a months supply, depending on where purchased and market value).

A little bit about me, you ask? Well, I am just the sweetest girl you’ll ever meet, and I will do anything I can to please my humans.  I’m attention-motivated, and I will happily cuddle on the couch all day long and demand endless pets and love from you.  But despite being incredibly loving, I also have an energetic spunky side!  I love taking walks and am at my best when I’m getting about 2-4 miles of walking per day.  I make a fantastic running buddy, too, and will run by your side while on a leash.  When I’m not outside, I’ve been known to wrestle, as well as toss/chase my Kong around the house.  I also tend to get the zoomies pretty often, especially after a nice, long walk.

Something that I also wanted to add is that I can take a little while to warm up to new people and new surroundings.  If new people reach into my cone to pet my head, I can be aggressive and protective.  Therefore, I prefer slow introductions in order to feel comfortable.  I also tend to feel nervous and tense around males.  Currently, I’d rather they not engage with me and just allow me to sniff them once ready.

My ideal home would be with an active family who can provide me with sufficient exercise every day.  I also require lots of love and cuddles, and I’m happy to report that I don’t have any separation anxiety and can be left alone for several hours with no issues.  I am probably kitty- and dog-friendly, and I think I would do okay around little humans.

"The Animal Pad recognizes that taking in a new dog can pose a challenge to the entire family. Due to her potential reactivity, Osa's adoption package includes a FREE four-week scholarship with our partner Goodpup (https://goodpup.com/). Goodpup offers virtual, individualized training to ensure you, your dog, and your family have the skills needed to thrive together. GoodPup Scholarships include:

  • 4+ weeks of positive reinforcement training

  • 24/7 chat for questions and support

  • Access to a behavior team to assist in advanced cases"

Do we sound like a match?  If so, my adoption fee is $250 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
