My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jabulani, lovingly nicknamed Jabu for short, is a sweet girl looking to affectionately nuzzle her way into your heart!

This precious girl absolutely adores being in the company of her human companions. She greets everyone she meets with a curly tailed tail wag and lots of slobbery kisses. She also makes sure to show off her agile spins and funny vocalizations to wow her new friends. She is an energetic and active pup that would love to go for long walks, spend some time playing fetch in the yard, training using positive reinforcement methods, and enjoying a nice food puzzle. Jabu is also a gold medalist at tug-of-war and an expert in squeeky toys.

You can see Jabu in action in this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/j9ZpmzAYeRg

Petite and beautiful at 62 pounds and 11 years, Jabu prefers to be the apple of her person's eye, for this reason she would be perfectly happy as a solo dog. This elegant and refined young lady would prefer a home without tiny little hands as she enjoys her space after meals and that can be hard for kiddos to understand. Jabu really loves her people and can be heard whining and complaining when left at home alone. With some support from our behavior team you should be able to work through her very mild separation anxiety.Overall, Jabu is a smart and bouncy girl, spinning around when she gets excited and even loves exploring the beach and dipping her paws in the ocean with her humans.

This sweet girl joined us after her guardian sadly passed away unexpectedly.

More about this rescue

TikiHut Akita Rescue Association (TARA) is a 501(c)(3), non-profit, animal welfare and education organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of orphaned Akitas and is located in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California.

Our group is comprised of volunteers, enthusiasts and foster homes. The members in our organization have come together because of the passion we share for the Akita breed. Our breed is respected and treated as royalty in their native Japan, but here in this country, so many of them sit alone in the local shelters, waiting to die. Each of our members (and their families), work tirelessly to save the many Akitas that end up in these shelters.

In addition to finding new homes and families for these wonderful dogs, we also dedicate our efforts to educating the public about the breed, including but not limited to, the importance of spaying and neutering, proper nutrition, behavior and training information and the genetic issues plaguing our breed.

Each Akita we bring into our program undergoes a thorough health exam, is spayed or neutered, brought up to date medically, and is worked with for basic obedience and socialization. We crate train all our pups and put them through basic puppy classes. All our dogs are microchipped before they are adopted.

The Akitas we take in come from all walks of life. Some have been abused and neglected and some have come from well known breeders. It is a huge misconception that all dogs that come from rescue are all problem dogs. We have seen some of the most wonderfully tempered Akitas come out of these shelters and we hope we can give many more a second chance at the life they never had.
